- Life Lessons Sports Teaches Kids and Taking Control of Your Health with Jason Bronstad and Jason Wachob
In today's Member Takeover episode, I'm passing the baton to a couple of Jasons and badass members of the Brotherhood. Today's host is none other than Jason Bronstad and joining him is Jason Wachob. Jason Wachob is the co-founder of mindbodygreen , an organization that revolutionizes health and wellness with holistic approaches that go beyond traditional medicine. In this conversation between two Jasons, they discuss something that is easy to forget as parents: it's not the flashy gifts or the fancy cars that win our kids' hearts. What matters most is our presence—being there for their sporting events, plays, or simply hanging out and playing at home. As a former basketball player, Jason W. opens up about the impact sports had on him and the valuable life lessons, health benefits, and positive impact sports have on our kids' personal growth, both on and off the field. Jason W. also shares some killer insights, medical tests, and screens to help us step up our health game, catch any warning signs early, and take control of our mental and physical health. Enjoy! A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through… Life is precious, never leave an argument angry When a blind date becomes a soulmate Valuable life lessons kids learn from playing sports Educating kids about wellness with healthy food habits All protein is not created equal to build muscle Medical tests and screens that are worth every penny Wachob family mottos and working toward a ScreamFree home The inspiration for mindbodygreen Tips to help you take charge of your health and nutrition Daily exercise can be as little 5-10 minutes at a time Get the Full Show Notes Want access to the full show notes, including links to all resources mentioned during today's conversation? - The Influence of Real-Life Connections on Your Brain with Colleen & Jason Wachob
How does real life connection influence your brain health and longevity? The rise of algorithms has had a significant impact on our overall brain health and mental well-being. They work to direct your attention online and can disrupt how you interact with people, eventually interfering with how you learn, communicate, and engage with others. This makes it difficult to maintain a healthy balance between being online and fostering in-person connections. To go further on this topic, I’m excited to have Colleen and Jason Wachob on our show today. They are the founders and co-CEO’s of Mind Body Green, an independent media brand dedicated to your well-being. They’re also the authors of the brand-new book, The Joy of Well-Being: A Practical Guide to a Happy, Healthy, and Long Life . Technology can make your life easier in many ways. But it can also have a downside. The more it advances, the more tempting it can be to rely on algorithms to think for you. If you’re looking for a way to sort through the polarizing noise online and find information on nutrition and wellness to share with the people you love, this episode is for you. - Building A Health & Wellness Empire with MindBodyGreen's Jason Wachob #187
This episode of The Life Stylist comes to you straight from MindBodyGreen HQ, the home of all things healthy living. Our guest and tour guide through the world of wellness is Jason Wachob, CEO of MBG. Excruciating back pain led Jason to yoga – and that opened the doors to a whole new world of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. So Jason started studying wellness science, and he realized that being healthy isn’t eating low-fat cottage cheese with Splenda every morning. Who knew? True wellness is a blend of mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and environmental wellbeing – and all of these things are interconnected! That’s why MindBodyGreen is one word, not three. You can’t meditate and eat organic all day and then throw toxic products all over your body. It just doesn't work. We get into everything from the (sometimes questionable) marketing within the wellness industry to monetizing a fulfilling passion to the questionable promotion of psychoactive drugs as a path to enlightenment. It’s a fun and eye-opening ride, so strap in and get ready to learn. Topics Discussed In This Episode: The latest and greatest happenings at MindBodyGreen Why Erewhon and Whole Foods aren’t the beginning and end of wellness How to begin monetizing a passion project Growing from 0 to 10 million unique visitors a month Why it’s so exciting that we’re living in a time where Eastern wisdom is meeting Western medical science The future of medicine is functional How you can avoid getting caught up in the dogma of what you’re eating (and why that’s a problem) The good and bad of supplements: marketing vs. efficacy How Jason reduces stress and relaxes What’s up with the CBD industry? Why going outside of yourself through psychoactive drugs or “medicines” isn’t true wellness How people justify things that are fun as good for you The best high in the world How Jason and his wife navigated the conception and birth process What you can do to encourage brain health and cognition – without taking anything! The yoga teachers who helped Jason heal his back More about this episode. - Making Space For Pleasure In Your Diet And How To Live A Wellthy Life - With Jason Wachob
Many people mistakenly believe that being healthy means living a life of deprivation. Sure, if you’re a health conscious person you generally avoid toxic foodstuffs that might nullify your mojo. But people who make healthy choices for the long-term are guided by more pleasure than anything else. A healthy, sustainable diet is a pleasurable one. It has to be. I’m absolutely blown away by the foods that I get to eat on a regular basis. It’s almost unfair. The flavor sensations, the colors, the textures, the overall party in the mouth experience. I aspire to help people discover just how good real food can be. First of all, there’s pleasure within the constructs of the diet. The thousands of real foods that you get to eat (based on what feels best for your body) delivers tens of thousands of different options for you to feast on. The pleasure could be from something as savory as a grass fed ribeye, to as sweet and seductive as chocolate cashew ice cream with warm candied pecans on top. All made from real ingredients, of course! The first pleasure is making the most of what you have access to, and getting the best quality ingredients possible. The second pleasure comes from going outside of the usual structure of your diet to have a little something unordinary. Pancakes? Yes, please. Nachos? Yes, please. Cheesecake? Wait… Are you sure…? Yes, please! These things are clearly not as “natural” as the whole foods used to make your other meals, but doing this right can make the difference between a long-term healthy lifestyle, or giving up because you struggle to convince yourself that pancakes aren’t delicious. The key is, a health conscious person can indulge in these things every now and then, but they are truly there with the treat. They take it in, let their senses explore, and are present in their body to enjoy the moment and then move on. It’s not lying to yourself that these are healthy foods, but giving yourself permission to enjoy a treat and then get back to doing what feels best. I guarantee that if you keep eating pancakes on a regular basis, you’re going to look and feel like a pancake yourself. Indulge, and move on. So, how do we best navigate this terrain? Well, we’ve got on a special guest who knows a thing or two about how all of this works. Today we have the CEO of the enormously popular website and brand MindBodyGreen, Jason Wachob. He’s here to share with you his best tips for living what he calls a truly “wellthy” way of life. Enjoy! In this episode you'll discover: How Jason went from being a college basketball player to the CEO of one of the top wellness brands in the world. What MindBodyGreen really means. How your environment impacts your genetic expression. Why a one-size-fits-all diet will never work for all of us. Why it’s important to make space for pleasure in your diet. A great form of exercise for connecting your mind and body. Why building a life is more important than building a résumé. Why your brain seeks to affirm your negative thinking. Important questions to ask yourself when choosing your career. Why you should only focus on the things you can control. Why it’s critical to take time to explore. How “thank you” can open new doors for you. What the antidote to negative emotions is. How fun and laughter helps to create a well-thy life.
