  • On The Wings of Legacy: In The Clubmobile with Erin Miller
    The Donut Dollies

How do you define a legacy? For Erin Miller, it transcends generations; her mother, Terry Harmon was a Donut Dolly and served in Vietnam. Before that, her grandmother served in The WASP during WWII. Three women, three generations, all carrying a legacy. This week Erin joins us to tell the story of her grandmother, Elaine Harmon, the journey of her service, and the fight after WASP militarization that Erin and her mother Terry undertook to ensure that even in her death, Elaine was buried as part of the US Military and how that fight led her to write her first book, Final Flight, Final Fight. The coffee is hot and the sinkers are fresh, so grab your flight gear and taxi over to The Clubmobile!

How does a comms team actually build the case for hiring someone dedicated to AI? Erin Miller has the answer. Erin Miller is VP of Global Corporate Communications at Yahoo, where she's spent the last two years helping reposition a 30-year-old brand for a new era. Her path runs from Porter Novelli and Condé Nast through Meta and Handshake to Yahoo, nearly two decades built on the same instinct: relationships outlast any one job. In this episode, recorded live at Cannes Lions, we discuss how Yahoo built the business case for a dedicated AI operations hire inside its comms team, what actually works (and doesn't) for first-time and repeat Cannes attendees, how Yahoo measures impact beyond the festival, and much more. • (un)popular PARENTING with Erin Miller
    Resilient Mental State

Erin Miller is my favorite source of parenting wisdom, period. Unafraid to be unpopular, she highlights paradoxes, counters cultural pressures, attacks unfounded myths, and empowers parents to cultivate resilience in themselves and their children. In our conversation, we discuss some of the most common myths of parenting, the power of uncertainty, physical vs psychological safety, defining your roles, flexible approaches to parenting while still remaining consistent, pros and cons of different styles of parenting, connecting over controlling, facilitating independence over reliance, and much more. The beauty about parenting wisdom is that it can be equally applied to any relationship or form of leadership. Erin’s posts encourage how to be an effective guide over an ineffective micromanager. They regularly update my mindset and make me a better parent, spouse, and person. Empowering perspectives allow for improved action. This conversation delivered on all fronts. She is currently completing her capstone project with UNICEF Australia, writing their domestic climate, environment and sustainability policy, and works in environmental and sustainability management at engineering construction company Laing O’Rourke. We deep dive into the mental health impacts on young people and Erin explores her work at UNICEF writing a climate change policy for the organisation and how this is instilling hope in young people. Nearly 86% of young people experience worry and stress around climate change and they often feel like their voices aren’t heard in making real and active change. Today, Erin Miller shares her story of losing her son, Chad, to heroin addiction. During this time, Erin has gained a lot of insight and wisdom, and her current perspective is completely different from how it was at the time of his death. Being able to help others has made the whole experience worthwhile for her. Erin explains that addiction has become an epidemic. It is on the rise and it is destroying families and people's lives. She believes that there's one kind of addiction or another running in virtually every household because both street drugs and prescription medication are so very easily available today. This is why she advocates strongly for mental well-being and helps people to find ways, other than medication, to cope with their inner pain. Episode Link theaddictedmind.com/74 Erin advises parents to be open with their kids and let them know that having an addiction is not something to be judged. And as a parent, it is important to know that your child's addiction is not your fault if you have done your best. Erin has written a book, Miller Strong Rewrite Your Story - Take a Stand and Turn Your Past Into Your Superpower , which is due to be launched soon. She spent five years interviewing thousands of addicts and people in recovery and this taught her that nobody likes to own up to their faults or to admit that they are not in control. Erin started a foundation, called Miller Strong Seventeen Foundation. It is all about purpose because most people tend to lose their purpose somewhere in their lives. Erin explains that sharing our stories is very important because for every story shared someone is needing to hear that exact story. Erin believes that we should provide help for those who need it, and lean on each other, especially on the darkest days. Erin found God with the help of a spiritual healer in Indonesia.
