On this episode of Reaganism, Rachel Hoff sits down with Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist and human rights activist. The discussion delves into the ongoing protests in Iran, sparked by economic distress and the brutal enforcement of compulsory hijab laws, which have evolved into a broader revolution against the Islamic Republic. Masih shares her personal experiences and insights into the regime's oppressive tactics, the international community's response, and the critical role of women's rights in the fight for freedom. Her testimony underscores the urgency for global solidarity to support the Iranian people's quest for a secular democracy.
About the Episode In today’s episode, host Mark Dubowitz is joined by one of the Iranian regime's most fearless enemies, Masih Alinejad. Masih is not just a journalist or an activist—she’s a one-woman revolution. Born in Iran, exiled for speaking truth to power, and now living under constant threat, Masih has become a voice for the voiceless, especially for Iranian women fighting back against the regime's brutality. Her campaigns, My Stealthy Freedom, White Wednesdays, and United for Navid all went viral. Her social media platforms have become lifelines for Iranians risking everything to protest. The regime sees her as a threat, and they've tried to silence her the only way they know how, through violence. In the past few years, the Islamic Republic has made multiple attempts to kidnap or assassinate her on US soil. A New York court recently convicted two men for their roles in a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by Iranian operatives to assassinate Masih right in Brooklyn. We break down her story, the verdict, and what it tells us about the regime's global terror machine. On this episode of BTP, we look at the crucial role that women play in the fight for freedom around the world, with a focus on the monumental “Women Life Freedom” protest movement that first rocked Iran in 2022. We are joined by activist and journalist Masih Alinejad, an international leader in the fight for women’s rights and democracy in Iran and a true inspiration.
Masih Alinejad, the Iranian-born activist, journalist, and author, shares her extraordinary story of advocating for women’s rights, freedom, and political change in Iran—at great personal risk.
Iran is being rocked by its most significant protests since the Green Movement of 2009. Since September, hundreds of thousands of young and mostly female demonstrators have filled the streets of nearly every major city from Tehran to Tabriz, many discarding their headscarves at great personal risk to protest draconian societal rules and restrictions. The backlash from security forces has been brutal, though (except in the Kurdish region) the government has yet to send in the Revolutionary Guard. Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad joins Ian Bremmer on the GZERO World podcast to discuss. Where will these protests lead, and what are the geopolitical implications for the region, and for the West? Alinejad shares her views on the unprecedented unity among the Iranian protesters, her personal experience being targeted by the Iranian government even after moving to the United States, and why the Iranian men's World Cup team does not deserve sympathy.
