Baltimore’s Arena Players Inc. is the oldest continuously operating African-American community theater in the United States. Founded in 1953 by a group of ambitious actors, Arena Players has a proud history of community service and outstanding dramatic achievements. Their dedication to preserving African-American arts and culture has made them a cornerstone of Baltimore's artistic community. How do you begin to heal generational trauma? A group of actors at ‘ Arena Players Incorporated ,’ the country’s oldest continually operating African-American community theater, is addressing that question through poetry, prose and music. “U Thought I Was Him, a Theatrical Mixtape” features five men, each portraying different relatives in one family. The show runs Fridays through Sundays through Nov. 27. We spoke with Troy Burton , the show’s producer and director and with Noah Silas , who plays the character of Kevin Sr. in the show, to get a preview. On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks to new friend and frog gigger Troy Burton and long time hunting buddy Drew Edwards about chasing big bull frogs in small ponds around Southwest Missouri. Troy recently moved from Dallas to Springfield Mo and is a lifelong hunter and fisherman. Although he grew up frog gigging he has not participated in the sport in several years. Drew and Dan frog gig together every year and chase after multiple species together all around the country. In this episode Dan, Drew and Troy try to predict how their first night of Missouri’s frog season will go as well as share stories from seasons past and some of their favorite strategies for catching these amphibious delicacies.
