Did you know American music legend Nile Rodgers is helping the Trust plant and protect woodland in Northern Ireland? Alongside generous donations to Faughan Valley Woodlands from the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF), Nile has got stuck in with planting on site. Nile and the foundation he co-founded with his partner, Nancy Hunt, are working with us to reconnect fragmented native woods in a region where less than 1% of ancient woodland remains. We caught up with the multiple Grammy Award winner on his latest visit to find out why. We also hear from David Saddington, trustee of both WAFF and the Trust, on why empowering young people to take direct action is key to this work, and we chat to some of those volunteering at this special event. Please note this episode contains references to drugs. Don't forget to rate us and subscribe! Learn more about the Woodland Trust at woodlandtrust.org.uk Transcript You are listening to Woodland Walks, a podcast for the Woodland Trust, presented by Adam Shaw. We protect and plant trees for people to enjoy, to fight climate change and to help wildlife thrive. Nile: But it just made me feel so good. It was so real, it was almost like a drug. So my parents were doing heroin, I was doing music *laughs*. Nile: So I always thought that an artist was the guy trying to be the smartest person in the room, that everybody said, 'well, I wish I could play like him, I wish I could do that'. No, it was the person who touched people's hearts. Nile: We actually had them locked out the studio because we still hadn't finished the lyrics to We Are Family. Nile: Trees do, all plants, but trees, you know, especially, do so much for life. Let's not just talk about the overall environment, life, all life forms that exist. Adam: For 40 years, if you've been on a dance floor, you'll have been dancing to the music of one of our guests today. He co-founded Chic, produced and collaborated with David Bowie, Madonna, Richard Jackson, and well, to be honest, too many others to mention. But to give you an idea of the sort of musical success he's had, I can say that he has produced and performed on records which have sold more than 750 million albums and 100 million singles. Born to teenage parents in an environment where drug use was very much part of his every day, he has come from that background with an attitude to life which is as upbeat and as positive as his music. And together with his partner, Nancy Hunt, they have established the We Are Family Foundation, focused on empowering young people around the world. Together, they're in Northern Ireland, in Derry, to support and protect and indeed restore woodland in this country, and indeed Nile is on the Woodland Walks sofa and joined by one of the trustees of the We Are Family Foundation and indeed the Woodland Trust, David. So we'll come to David in a moment. Why don't we start now where it all started with the music? Reading about you and listening to stuff you've done, my impression is you're the most positive person I've read about and that surprises me because of the disjointed background you grew up in. So two questions. Do you think that's a fair description and if so, why? Nile: So the... the interesting thing about my childhood was that though my parents were heroin addicts, they were extremely loving and they believed in me so much so that, believe it or not, I was never, ever told what to do. They knew that I instinctively would figure it out. Or I was just one of those nerdy, nice kids that they knew would never get into trouble. I mean, I have never stolen anything. I've never, I bullied one kid once and the reason why is because everybody bullied me because I was a nerd. And when I bullied this ki
Chic with Nile Rodgers, People, CNN, ABC, BET, FOX Robin Roberts & Whoopi Goldberg LOVE Them!! Music & Munchies is My Show Theme This Week: Soul Snacks Cookie Company! Music for this Segment: CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers - Let's Dance (Live At The House Sídney 2013) Everyone wants to be a leader in a world where people don’t often possess the experience or expertise to be in the lead. That is gained from mastering the skills and learning to follow. Ralph Rolle is a prime example of learning to follow becoming born to lead. Ralph followed his older brother in learning the drums, but that he led him to becoming a premier musician, who has created music with everyone from super producer Nile Rodgers and his iconic disco/R&B group Chic, pop legends Sting and Bono, the 1st woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Aretha Franklin, hip-hop giants Biggie Smalls and Queen Latifah, jazz superstar Chris Botti, the queen of Neo-Soul Erykah Badu, Vanessa Williams, soul crooner D’Angelo, songstylist India Arie, Lady Gaga, Dolly Pardon, Bono, Roger Daltry, John Legend, Joss Stone, Elvis Costello and playing in the resident band for N.B.C. ‘It’s Showtime at The Apollo’ for over 15 seasons. Ralph has also served as the musical director for syndicated “The Caroline Rhea Show” and he served in the same role for Japanese R&B/soul superstar Toshi Kubota. Ralph took the time, any time he had the time, to stop and cook and enjoy life. It helped him to come down from the tension and time on the road that was always in motion. Cooking, another gift he received from his mother, gave him the peace of mind he needed to slow down and breathe. And in learning his way around the kitchen, he started to bake. hat stayed with him and when he was hanging out with his musician friends, he would have his signature cookies. At first they laughed, but quickly the request became “please bring those cookies with you!” Over time, his cookies found their way into the hands of clients such as Westside Market, Franks Market, and many more. Good Morning America host chose Soul Snacks for her holiday gifting in 2011. In 2015, Bette Midler and Ralph met when Nile Rodgers and Chic were the guest artists and Ms. Midler’s annual Hulaween Charity event. Ralph had his “cookie calling card” with him. Ms. Midler loved Soul Snacks so much that she placed orders for her family and friends. Soon, he was selling his cookies at Melba’s, a legendary soul food restaurant in Harlem. The orders poured in and soon, he was featured in CNN, BET, ABC and FOX networks, in New York Times newspaper and in The Source and Vibe magazines. From there, Ralph gave birth to “SOUL SNACKS.” SOUL SNACKS offers a variety of delicious cookies such as Georgia Oatmeal Raisin, Peanut Peanut Butter, Down Home Double Chocolate Chip, Ebony and Ivory Almond Cookie, Grampy’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie, French Cocoa Chocolate Chip, Miami Raisin Walnut, Chunked Up Chocolate Walnut, Cranberry Oatmeal Raisin, Joyful Gingerbread and the most recently added, but now #1 seller, Sweet Potato Cookies. “Inside of every cookie is years of heart, soul and lots of pride that has been the main ingredient of SOUL SNACKS Cookies for over a decade.” All Rights Reserved © 2026 Building Abundant Success!! Tu rigoles, Fuck Off ? Personne ne passera ça à la radio. Mais non, attend, il suffit de changer. Qu’est-ce qui pourrait bien fonctionner, aaah freak off, Ouais ça marche ! Mais ça ne veut rien dire. Non mais Freak out !
For Episode 22 of the UNSUNG podcast Dom Dronska (General Manager, Audiomovers) & Matt Soczywko (Head of Marketing, Audiomovers) were joined by music legend Nile Rodgers at Abbey Road Studios in London. In this very special episode, Audiomovers' Chief Collaborator & Chair of the Advisory Board Nile Rodgers offers an incredible journey through his legendary career. Starting off with his work on Duran Duran's "The Reflex" in 1983 and getting back in the studio with them over 40 years later, he opens up about the challenges of dealing with record label pushback and the impact of the "Disco Sucks" movement, alongside the clever tactics he and Bernard Edwards used to navigate their first record deal. Nile shares his philosophy on collaborating with artists, crafting hit records, and how his experience with small budgets fostered his "one take" recording philosophy in his early days which inspired the writing of certain tracks. He discusses the unconventional method Chic used to break their first hit, "Dance, Dance, Dance," and dives into the technical side of his studio process, discussing his experience with digital and analog recording. He recounts fascinating stories from his diverse discography, including the iconic bassline of "Good Times" and his work on films like "Coming to America" and "Beverly Hills Cop III." The conversation also explores Nile's first experiences with Hip Hop alongside Blondie's Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, growing up in Alphabet City, and his early access to musical education. He also touches on his experiences working with legends like Sister Sledge, Diana Ross on "I'm Coming Out," and Carly Simon on "Why," as well as the story of almost working with Aretha Franklin. Finally, Nile closes on his enduring passion for making music better for others and his commitment to philanthropy through the We Are Family Foundation.➡️ Follow Nile on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/nilerodgers➡️ Hear some of Nile’s work - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DZ06evO24hDkk?si=aGNcI_SnRa6eP586ADWF4A➡️ Learn more about Audiomovers - https://audiomovers.com/?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=Content&utm_campaign=UNSUNG_Nile_RodgersTimecode0:00 - 0:34 Intro0:38 - 4:56 Working with Duran Duran and the Story of “The Reflex”4:56 - 6:28 Dealing with Pushback from Record Labels6:28 - 7:57 Staying in Touch with Artists While Moving from Project to Project7:57 - 10:36 The Bassline of “Good Times”10:36 - 11:20 How Working with Small Recording Budgets Made Nile So Efficient11:20 - 14:05 Digital Recording vs. Analog Recording14:05 - 15:25 Does Nile Prefer Recording Analog or Digital?15:25 - 22:27 Nile & Bernard’s First Record Deal22:27 - 23:38 The Impact of the “Disco Sucks” Movement23:38 - 23:53 How Nile Decides Whether He’ll Work with an Artist23:53 - 26:57 (Almost) Working with Aretha Franklin26:57 - 28:52 Wanting to Be a “Self-Contained Band”28:52 - 32:26 How to Get a Hit Record32:26 - 34:32 Working on Commercials to Pay the Rent and Meeting John Landis34:32 - 40:43 Working on “Coming to America” & “Beverly Hills Cop III”40:43 - 42:51 Eddie Murphy Story42:51 - 44:45 “Alphabet City” & the Beginnings of Hip Hop44:45 - 47:17 Nile’s First Experience of “Hip Hop” with Debbie Harry + Chris Stein47:17 - 52:36 Growing Up in Alphabet City + Nile’s Early Access to Musical Education52:36 - 55:44 Working with Sister Sledge55:44 - 58:00 Working on Diana Ross’ Album “Diana” (1980)58:00 - 1:04:00 The Story of “I’m Coming Out”1:04:00 - 1:04:40 Intermission1:04:40 - 1:12:34 The Story of “Why” by Carly Simon1:12:34 - 1:14:32 What Nile Cares About When Working on a Song1:14:52 - 1:15:26 EndUNSUNG is a podcast from Audiomovers. In Part 1, Omar shares the stories behind some of his most iconic recordings, including his legendary session with David Bowie on Let’s Dance, his deep musical relationship with Nile Rodgers, and his time in Weather Report. We also get into the wild story of how he tracked the entire Dire Straits album "Brothers in Arms" (including the questions I’ve always had about Money for Nothing). With this interview, I hope you'll now understand how Omar became the legend he is today. I think your mind will be blown when you hear about the caliber of musicians that were around him since he was a kid! Part 2 drops next week. Am Mikrofon: Marc Mühlenbrock Link zur Webseite „Le Freak“ hat Hits geliefert. Unfassbar viele Hits. Die er entweder geschrieben, produziert oder performt hat – oder alles drei zusammen: „Good Times“, „We Are Family“, „Lost in Music“, „Everybody Dance“, „I Want Your Love“ mit seinen Bands Chic und Sister Sledge. „Upside Down“ von Diana Ross, „Let's Dance“ von David Bowie, „Like a Virgin“ von Madonna. This episode, Tim Burgess is joined for a listening party by Nile Rodgers, to talk about Chic’s 1979 album, their third record, Risque. Nile Rodgers, along with his band Chic’s contributed to music cannot be understated. They are one of the most important artists in the popularisation of disco music in the 1970s. Nile Rodgers himself is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, with a unique style that he continues to lend to leading artists to this very day. He also remains a hugely in-demand record producer, his CV boasting credits on some of the biggest recordings from the likes of Daft Punk, Duran Duran, Madonna, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, INXS the B52-s, Pharrell Williams and so many more. Risque was released on 30th July 1979 on Atlantic.
Funk-guitar wiz and Wong Notes host Cory Wong flips the script and sits in the 100 Guitarists guest chair. Wong cleared his schedule to talk about one Nile Rodgers’ work on the Halo 2 soundtrack. We were lucky that got him to return our call, but we did move on quickly. Wong is a scholar of all things rhythm guitar—and that means all things Nile. We talk about how the Hitmaker voices his progressions—“You hear Nile play a chord progression … and it’s that song”—and the role of rhythm guitar in general. Cory delivers his list of best Nile performances, tips for direct guitar sounds, and most surprising Nile collabs. Ever wonder what it would sound like if Nile Rodgers produced David Lee Roth covering Willie Nelson? Give a listen and drop us a know when you check it out for yourself.
