Sara Pascoe is a comedian and writer who has appeared on programmes including QI, Taskmaster and the Great British Sewing Bee. She is also a screenwriter and the author of three books including her debut novel Weirdo which won the inaugural Jilly Cooper Prize for fiction last year. Sara was born in Dagenham and grew up in Romford. She joined a drama club when she was 14 and set her heart on an acting career but failed to get a place at drama school. She read English Literature at the University of Sussex and after graduating took on various jobs to make ends meet including a stint as a London tour bus guide. In 2007 she performed her first comedy gig to an audience of 12 people in a south London pub. Even though no-one laughed at her jokes, she was well and truly bitten by the stand-up bug and the following year was joint runner-up at the Funny Women Awards. In 2010 she performed her first show at the Edinburgh Festival and appeared on the BBC’s Live at the Apollo two years later. She is currently touring her latest stand-up tour, I Am A Strange Gloop. Our first serving of soup on Dish. Sara Pascoe is a comedian, actor, presenter and writer who loves soup with her entire being. Time, then, for Angela to dust off the ladle and serve Sara the best minestrone , using a recipe from Martha Collison. But will it win round Nick, who cannot shake the association of soups and smelly office kitchens? We’re joined by Sara to discuss her new show, Zero Stars, coming to TLC from mid-April. In Zero Stars, Sara and her pal Roisin Conaty travel around the world to visit places and activities with bad reviews and terrible ratings. You can also see Sara on Mock The Week, which, after a three year absence, has returned to TV on TLC. At the table, we hear about Sara’s love of performing, stand-up and... Take That, a band who, like soup, are essential parts of the Pascoe lifestyle. Just don’t make her choose between them. The wine pairing for the minestrone is Waitrose’s Blueprint Gavi but, with a stand-up gig later in the day, Sara is sticking to coffee.. Angela adapts the minestrone recipe to make it vegan, using vegetable stock and vegan cheddar cheese. Soup-erb! You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube and on Spotify. All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes The recipe for the minestrone soup was created for Waitrose by Martha Collison . Sara Pascoe has a magic ability to take life’s absurdities and turn them into comedy gold, but how does she approach change? Sara’s quick, intelligent wit has seen her competing on many of the UK’s most popular comedy panel shows such as QI and Taskmaster and she also hosts ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’. Not only is she one of the country’s foremost comedians, Sara is a bestselling author too, having written three books - ‘Animal’, ‘Sex Money Power’ and her debut novel ‘Weirdo’, which is out on paperback now. She’s also a book fan and co-hosts the podcast ‘Sara and Cariad’s Weirdos Book Club’ with her friend, and previous guest on Changes, Cariad Lloyd. In this refreshing and light hearted conversation, Sara opens about her untraditional upbringing, her transition to vegetarianism at a young age and her changing relationship with her parents after her Dad left when she was seven. Reflecting on her latest novel, "Weirdo,", Sara also discusses her evolving relationship with her own confidence, detachment from show business as a new mum and her self-worth as a comedian.
