  • Soundside "kennects" with Ken Jennings
    Soundside

For over 60 years the quiz game show Jeopardy has been a beloved part of people’s lives. Washington native Ken Jennings says, growing up, the show sparked his love of trivia. It’s a passion that led him to a 74 game winning streak in 2004, and a victory at the Greatest of All Time tournament – so we can officially call him The GOAT. Eventually, he even won the title of “host” of Jeopardy. Meanwhile he’s translated his trivia expertise into his own game - called Kennections. It’s a weekly puzzle he writes for Mental Floss. And while you can no longer get a home game of Jeopardy, you can bring home Kennections in Jennings’ latest book: The Complete Kennections: 5,000 questions in 1,000 puzzles. Guest: Ken Jennings, host of Jeopardy and author of The Complete Kennections: 5,000 questions in 1,000 puzzles Related stories: The Complete Kennections: 5,000 Questions in 1,000 Puzzles Thank you to the supporters of KUOW, you help make this show possible! • How ‘Jeopardy!’ Is Changing with Ken Jennings

The Edmonds-born record-breaker muses on the game’s transformation and reveals behind-the-scenes secrets. Jeopardy! is an American institution, a television game show that for decades didn't really change all that much. But in recent years the syndicated staple has undergone some relatively seismic shifts. For this episode of the Crosscut Talks podcast, we listen in on a conversation with Ken Jennings about the longstanding legacy of the American game show, his fascination with trivia as a child and how he went from computer programmer to 74 consecutive wins on Jeopardy! to being the current co-host. In this conversation with journalist Peter Kafka from the 2023 Crosscut Ideas Festival, Jennings also discusses how the show has changed since his time as a contestant. Kennings says Jeopardy! now benefits from social media, where there is a thriving community of fans and prospective contestants. But he also says the game show is dealing with present-day challenges in an entertainment world more and more dominated by streaming platforms. This conversation took place May 6, 2023. --- Credits Host: Paris Jackson Producer: Seth Halleran Event producers: Jake Newman, Anne O'Dowd Engineers: Resti Bagcal, Viktoria Ralph --- If you would like to support Crosscut, go to crosscut.com/membership . • SPOS #641 - Planet Funny With Ken Jennings

Welcome to episode #641 of Six Pixels of Separation . Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #641 - Host: Mitch Joel. I'm a moron. I did not put two and two together. My buddy, Scott Stratten , let me know that a new book called, Planet Funny , had recently been published. I'm all-in on any non-fiction book that can bridge comedy, culture and things like that. Too many business professionals discount the value and merits of comedy in business, and how massive of a communications skill that comedy is (in short: study comedy if you want to get better at positioning, storytelling, communications skills, etc…). Plus, let's face it, funny equals happy… and we can never have enough of that! The author of the book, Planet Funny, has written over a dozen other books like ( Brainiac , Maphead , Because I Said So! and many more ). He also happens to be the winningest contestant ever on the age show Jeopardy! ( And even lost to IBM Watson 's artificial intelligence). That's Ken Jennings . So, yes, we discuss the impact of what he calls "peak comedy," but we also chat about his appearance on Jeopardy! and many other topics (as you can imagine, Ken is smaaaart). So, does your business need more funny? Yes… yes it does… and there's never been a better time to make that happen than right now. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 52:18. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Subscribe over at iTunes . Please visit and leave comments on the blog - Six Pixels of Separation . Feel free to connect to me directly on Facebook here: Mitch Joel on Facebook . or you can connect on LinkedIn . ...or on Twitter . Here is my conversation with Ken Jennings. Planet Funny. Brainiac. Maphead. Because I Said So!. Follow Ken on Twitter . This week's music: David Usher 'St. Lawrence River'.
