What a tour! Welcome back to the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast. To celebrate ten years of Radio X, Chris and the team carried out their Massive Decade Tour. They hosted the show live from five locations around the country, with locations of special significance to them all. They started the week live in a barn on the legendary Blur bassist, Alex James’s farm. Well when I say barn, let’s be honest it's more like a cathedral! Alex gave them a tour of the place and chatted about the incredible musicians he’s hosted on his farm and spoke on his life now as a full-time farmer. The team then dashed to Wrexham where they presented live from the Turf pub, literally touching distance from the Wrexham A.F.C. football stadium. After chatting with landlord Wayne and some locals who popped by, they made their next stop in Chris’s hometown: Leeds, where more shenanigans went down. Next it was to Brown- I mean Whitehaven, where Chris unveiled a very special surprise for the locals, before making their final stop in Glasgow on Friday, where they did the show live from their hotel in front of an audience. Throughout all of this chaos, each day a lucky listener won £10,000 as a thank you for supporting Radio X over all these years. We also had special guests along the way, such as Humphrey Ker, Susie McCabe and the one and only McWobinson. Normality will resume next week as Chris et al. will be back in the studio (after some seriously well earned rest!) Keep an ear out for these best bits: Captain’s lover Fermenting your plums Richard Ashcroft lookalike (...kind of) Enjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Weekdays 6:30am - 10am
Are bees farm animals? Welcome back to the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast. Well, we can’t ignore the Polly in the room any longer. You have all noticed her, and had a go at guessing her name and who she is, but officially she introduces herself this week. Polly! Our new, incredible, producer for The Chris Moyles Show. Expect more from her as the weeks go on and she becomes more accustomed to the show’s… erm… uniqueness! Chef and friend of the show, Jamie Oliver came into the studio this week to talk about his new book and TV show: Eat Yourself Healthy . He discusses how unhealthy the UK has become over the recent decades and the ways we can get back on track. Jamie also spoke about his recent flying lessons, and how effective they have been at helping his busy brain take a step back and slow down. With the 10 year anniversary of Radio X just weeks away, Chris and the team announced their Massive Decade Tour, similar to the Prize Dump tour but with a twist. Starting at Alex James’s farm in the country, the team will head around the UK giving listeners the chance to win up to £10,000 each day. That’s all for this week but keep an ear out for these crackers: Someone’s done it in the toilet Nun farts chocolate Billy the cage fighter Enjoy! After a couple of frustrating minutes texting about things they can’t talk about on the pod, David asks Joe about his recent appearance on the Chris Moyles Radio X Breakfast Show. Being such a fan of Chris, David wants to know everything about the experience and especially how Joe managed to remain so comfortable with it all. Which somewhat predictably makes Joe feel very uncomfortable for the majority of this episode. My guest this week is Numi Gildert who is the cohost with Rob Wills of the Drivetime show on KMFM. Numi has a robotics engineering background (including a PhD) and always loved consuming radio when she was young. She grew up in Macclesfield and listened to Silk FM, and later enjoyed Chris Moyles on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show when she was nine. Numi reveals that she always had a flair for performance and had pragmatic parents who worked in the corporate world. Numi loved science and anything Japanese including anime and manga. We find out how she then got into robotics, leading to her studying electronic engineering at York where she also presented on student radio. We talk about the value of live radio vs. the value of editing and how radio is better suited to her as a person. We learn too about Numi’s podcast and its focus on women in engineering and technology, and how there are more career opportunities for women in engineering now than there were in previous generations. We also talk about how education has changed over the years. Numi did some teaching while doing her PhD, and Numi discusses why her doctorate had its traumatic moments. We discuss the way we had to embrace new technology due to lockdown, and Numi tells us which of her teachers or lecturers she is still in touch with. We also reflect on how education is a long term process, and Numi explains why it is important to confront one’s mistakes. We discuss the skill of presenting a show on the radio, especially when things go wrong, and we find out what sort of music Numi enjoyed listening to when she was young. She presented Radio 1 Dance in the early hours of the morning some years ago, where she would play the music her parents used to enjoy. We reflect on the importance of having a wider sense of the music that is out there, rather than stick to just one genre, and at the end of the interview we discover whether Numi is a looking back or a looking forward type of person and why, in her own words, it is good to have a slightly delusional dream.
Is it weird to batch cook your lunch? Welcome to The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast! It was Bumfire night this week, sorry, BONfire… and we had not 1, not 2, but 3 comedians on the show! Ed Byrne gave us a call to have a pantless chat about the world’s longest comedy tour…once he eventually woke up… Then we continued the laughs with Paul Smith, the comedian, NOT the designer, who revealed what he does with the money he saves on not having a manager. Nick Mohammed also joined the team in his brand new jumper, but not before he packed the kids’ lunches and emptied the dishwasher. As if the line-up this week wasn’t funny enough, listen out for these fireworks: Captain is Mr Motherlover Big Brother ‘OMG Jackie’ meme Pep Guardiola likes it, loves it, wants it Enjoy!
