THE WINES (and Not-Wines) Dave's Wine: Henri Champliau - Cremant de Bourgogne Rose NV Proper "cremant" champagne style bubbly from Bourgogne (aka Burgundy.) Yeasty, croissant flavors of champagne mixed with gentle red fruit flavors of strawberry and raspberry. Effervescent, but still soft and approachable. TECH SHEET Dallas' Not-Wine: 1857 Estate Potato Vodka (Barrel Whiskey) Whiskey-adjacent, barreled in virgin American white oak from the Adirondacks with medium char. Smokiness with butter pecan and slated caramel. Technically a whiskey but they can't call it that. Long and succulent with insane toasty notes. Mark's Not-Wine: Crush Cream Soda (red) Cocktail recipes with Cream Soda Only available in Canada - sorry, non-Canadians! (Though just go buy normal cream soda, it tastes the same, give or take.) The sweet, creamy, semi-adult flavors of cream soda with a pop of bright red color. Add alcohol as desired. Carly Rae Jepsen is a writer’s writer. “I am very excited about the idea of writing it in all directions,” Carly says — and for the making of her latest album, The Loneliest Time, that meant writing literally hundreds of songs. On this episode of Object of Sound, Hanif and Carly Rae Jepsen talk about the unique collaborative process that went into narrowing that collection of songs down to the thirteen tracks on the album. Carly opens up about the challenges and opportunities of songwriting during the pandemic, and her drive to keep challenging the idea of what a pop song can be. Inspired by Carly’s recent experience at a James Taylor concert, Hanif closes the episode with a playlist of great songs to cry to. For the playlist of songs curated for this episode, head over to radio.sonos.com . Music In This Week’s Episode: Surrender My Heart - Carly Rae Jepsen Northern Sky - Nick Drake Someday We’ll All Be Free - Donny Hathaway The Very Thought of You - Nat King Cole I Don’t Smoke - Mitski When The Sun Hits - Slowdive Good Goodbye - Lianne La Havas Long Ride Home - Patti Griffin Show Notes: Carly Rae Jepsen’s The Loneliest Time is out today, October 21. Check out the full 8.5 hour version of Hanif’s Mega Sad Playlist, crowdsourced on Twitter and collected by Zineb Nour, here . This episode is part of our mini series, “The Wonders of Songwriting,” three special episodes on Object of Sound devoted to the art of how songs become songs. Hanif talks to artists Ravyn Lenae, Nick Hakim, and Carly Rae Jepsen to understand where their love of language comes from, how words become images become music, where the ideas begin, and how they morph as they move from the page into the intangible space of melody and vibration. If you’re a writer or maker in need of a creative refuel, check out Hanif’s recent interview on Creative Pep Talk , which also features lessons from artists we’ve interviewed here on Object of Sound. Credits: This show is produced by work by work : Scott Newman, Jemma Rose Brown, Kathleen Ottinger, Rhiannon Corby, and by Hanif Abdurraqib. The show is mixed by Sam Bair. Listen to Diego and Joss talk about one of their favourite records of all time, being Carly Rae Jepsen's EMOTION!!! This episode is not bias, it is entirely objective and fact that this album is the greatest of all time. Sorry, we don't make the rules... This week we’re revisiting a Talkhouse episode that was originally released in October of 2020, when perhaps you missed it because you had other things on your mind. It happens. This one features a great chat between two women at different phases in their careers: Carly Rae Jepsen and mxmtoon. You might recognize mxmtoon’s name from her podcast 365 Days, which is part of the Talkhouse Podcast Network. Speaking of, did you know we have a network full of other great shows , including Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions , Sing for Science , Craig Finn’s brand new podcast That’s How I Remember It , and What Had Happened Was with Open Mike Eagle? We do! Anyway, just before this episode, Carly Rae and mxmtoon had just collaborated on a track called “Ok on your own,” and they dove right into a great conversation about songwriting and much, much more. Check it out, and we’ll be back with a brand new episode next week! To celebrate Carly Rae Jepsen and mxmtoon 's rad collab track " ok on your own ," we paired the pop stars for what turned out to be a deep dive into the art of making music and learning to thrive in the complicated music industry. In this very warm and insightful conversation, Carly and Maia each share their (very different!) origin stories, and explore both the art of songwriting and live performance. Carly also shares clutch career wisdom. Check it out, and subscribe now to stay in the loop on future episodes of the Talkhouse Podcast . Plus, ICYMI: mxmtoon just kicked off her yearlong podcast project 365 days with mxmtoon in collab with Talkhouse, which features quirky stories from history that occurred on each day, old diary entries and more; it’s really fun, and like eight minutes long. —Elia Einhorn, Talkhouse Podcast host and producer For this week’s episode, Carly was recorded by Nick Theodorakis, and everyone else you hear recorded themselves. Our producer is Mark Yoshizumi. The Talkhouse Podcast theme song was composed and performed by The Range.

Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. Today we're talking with my new friend Amy Hoffman of the band Future Teens. We talked about Carly Rae Jepsen's 2015 album, "Emotion," our mutual love of Tom Hanks & growing up Christian. We also workshopped a couple film ideas for Carly Rae. Future Teens released their most recent EP, "Deliberately Alive," on Take This to Heart Records on March 12th, 2021. https://futureteens.bandcamp.com/album/deliberately-alive
In episode 3 of Pop Pantheon, DJ Louie is joined by Who? Weekly Co-Host Lindsey Weber to discuss Queen of Everything, Carly Rae Jepsen. Louie and Lindsey discuss Lindsey's pedigree as a JepFriend, including her travels across national borders to see Carly perform with a symphony in faraway Canada and her secret "Call Me Maybe" lip-sync video from 2012. They then get into why "Call Me Maybe" was Carly's only hit, if having your first song be an out-of-nowhere smash is a gift or a curse, the magic of Carly's perfect second album E•MO•TION, and the unique and prescient niche community Carly established around her as perhaps THE emblematic underrated Flop Star. Finally, Louie and Lindsey debate which tier Carly belongs in in the official Pop Pantheon.
