Guest Speaker - AnnaLynne McCord (born July 16, 1987) is an American actress, activist, and model. Known for playing vixen-type roles, McCord first gained prominence in 2007 as the scheming Eden Lord on the FX television series Nip/Tuck , and as the pampered Loren Wakefield on the MyNetworkTV telenovela American Heiress . In 2008, she was cast in The CW series 90210 , portraying antiheroine Naomi Clark . Initially, the part of Clark was conceived as a supporting role. By the end of the first season, however, media outlets had begun referring to McCord as the series' lead.
In today’s solo episode, Lindsey pours a glass and dives into all the things she’s been loving (and laughing about) lately. She kicks things off with Traitors Canada —breaking down why the cast is absolutely incredible and what’s making this version of the show stand out from the rest. Then she gets personal with a parenting update: how Labubus have surprisingly become a game-changer in helping her toddler’s speech development. (Who knew these little characters could be so effective?) To close things out, Lindsey brings back a special archived interview with AnnaLynne McCord , recorded right before Titanic 666 premiered. They talk character inspiration and nerd out over Titanic facts. This episode's sponsors:: Aura Frames Upgrade your photo-sharing game! Together, we explore the layers of AnnaLynne’s healing process. We talk about how an experience on set in 90210 added to the unravelling of her story - how therapy became a lifeline, how inner child work helped her begin to reconnect with fractured parts of herself, and what it truly meant to surrender to the truth of her story - not to be defined by it, but to transform through it. We talk about what DID actually is - beyond the stigma and misunderstanding - and how it emerged as a survival response to unthinkable pain. AnnaLynne also opens up about the work it took to move through shame , release the need to "perform" healing, and give herself permission to feel, grieve, and ultimately reclaim her life. She shares intimately about: • Her childhood and the protective roles her mind developed • The pivotal role of therapy in helping her name and integrate her experiences • Her relationship with her inner child and the parts of her that still needed love • The painful, nonlinear journey of healing from the past without being stuck in it • What it has meant to come home to herself - piece by piece • And she answers powerful listener questions with rawness and grace This is a conversation about trauma, yes - but more than that, it’s about truth and the courage it takes to look at your own story . Trigger Warning: This episode includes sensitive content around childhood sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviors, and dissociation . Please take care of yourself as you listen. Episode #3: Join us on a profound journey of healing and self-discovery with our guest, actress and advocate AnnaLynne McCord. AnnaLynne opens up about her personal experiences with trauma, including her escape from home at age 15 and her commitment to combating human trafficking. Her healing path, heavily influenced by neuroscience and spiritual practices like Reiki, began with a cerebral approach. She candidly shares her diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder (DID) at 31, using a powerful mirror metaphor to convey the complexities of the condition. AnnaLynne emphasizes the importance of healing as a gift to the world, underscoring the necessity of understanding one's trauma for personal bliss and healthy relationships. Listen in as we explore the intricacies of familial relationships and their impact on self-perception and growth. We reflect on the idea of reincarnation and the belief that we choose our parents to learn specific life lessons. Through personal stories, including the nurturing bond with an adopted "Mexican mama," we discuss the privilege of motherhood and the importance of connecting with our children as they guide us toward compassion and understanding. Emphasizing the need to break the cycle of self-doubt and inner criticism, we touch on themes from the book "Many Lives, Many Masters" to inspire love and self-acceptance. In this conversation, we examine the transformative journey of self-love and understanding one's life purpose. We explore the challenges people face in expressing self-love, emphasizing the responsibility of embracing it from a young age. A personal narrative highlights the significance of shifting perspectives from victimhood to empowerment, questioning life's challenges, and their alignment with our missions. The power of self-awareness and mindfulness in recognizing and addressing discomfort is also discussed, with a focus on mRNA as a communication system between the body and brain. By tuning into our body's signals, we can strengthen awareness and address root causes rather than merely treating symptoms. Join us as we celebrate the role of new generations in breaking free from old cycles and embrace the purpose of life beyond the mundane. In this episode, we are joined by actress, director, and activist, AnnaLynne McCord. We get to chat about her character in the movie "Condition of Return", how the Uvalde shooting impacted the project, and why we need to take cries for help seriously. She also talks about a time wherein empathy became critical, and why caring for mental health should be started at a young age. [1:55] The Character "You can't judge the villain if you wanna play them truthfully as an actress… This film was a little too real for my comfort level." [8:55] Belief Systems "There's an invitation within these religious themes for you to use your own brain." [15:14] Acting meets Reality "We went home exhausted after a really emotionally exhausting day… and we turned on the news, and the Uvalde shooting had happened that day." [18:15] Disconnection "Attaching to this belief system so strongly without exercising any personal autonomy whatsoever, that's when the danger comes in." [27:34] Sensationalizing the Shooters "They feel remarkably invisible, and this is the most visible they could be: they'll be on a news channel… If they can't be seen in life, perhaps they'll be seen in death… Take the public out of it; don't give them that." [31:36] Take the Signs Seriously "We can assume that these individuals are deeply, deeply in despair… We should be on alert, and we should be aware of that." [39:51] Empathy "We're not conditioned to feel our emotions, and we're not conditioned to hold that container for someone else." [53:17] Progress "Think about how long we've been trying to have mental health not be stigmatized… It's something that men are talking about more than they ever have." [58:36] Going to the Root "All the firsts happen early in life… that's really where it counts." [1:07:31] Fully Loved Self "People who are using problems for their own benefit, they aren't happy people either." [1:20:49] Condition of Return "The heart and intention and foundation of those things that built this film are so pure and so hopeful to be of service to give value, to not just be entertainment, but to be using the platform that we're given to talk about something that we feel is important." Russia has just invaded the Ukraine and the whole world is responding. Conflicting reports flood the airways & calls are going out to contribute to organizations to support Ukranian refugees. Many are at a loss for what to do with the anguish and heartbreak of yet another war breaking out. Among the many thousands of people who have been criticized for their imperfect responses, are a number of well-meaning celebrities. One such celebrity is actress AnnaLynne McCord, best known for her role on CW's 90210, dozens of other films and TV shows, as well as her advocacy for mental health & anti-human trafficking initiatives, and her public struggle as a survivor of severe trauma, resulting in a diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder. In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, AnnaLynne wrote a poem, and recited it on Twitter. The video received over 30 million plays in just three days. It begins with the line, "Dear Mister President Vladamir Putin, I'm so sorry that I was not your mother..." (Full video link here) It draws from AnnaLynne's experience overcoming the anger and rage that came as the result of her traumatic childhood, as she essentially presents the idea that if we all took better care of the children of this world, we would not see the kind of violence we now see all around us. Ben and AnnaLynne help guide us towards how we can all bring Hanh’s teachings into our daily lives, families, and our justice and educational systems. “When another person makes you suffer, it’s because he suffers deeply within himself and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment, he needs help. This is the message they are sending.” - Thich Nhat Hanh AnnaLynne McCord is an actress, activist and the founder of The Love Storm, a mass meditation initiative aimed at raising the collective energy against slavery of the mind and the body.
