- 94. Behind the Beagle Rescue in Wisconsin with Alexandra Paul
On March 15th, 2026 animal investigators made history by launching a mass open rescue at Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. Ridglan Farms is one of the two largest facilities in the US where beagles are bred and used for research in labs. Around 20 of the activists were arrested, including Alexandra Paul. In this interview Alexandra takes us behind the scenes, sharing what it was like to be at Ridglan Farms and liberate beagles with an organized team. She also shares more about the legal challenges her group faces and their hopes for future actions against Ridglan Farms. “We sometimes have to make ourselves feel uncomfortable and see the truth of what we humans do — and the consequences — so that we can do the right thing in our own life.” - Alexandra Paul SHOWNOTES - Support Rigland beagles: savethedogs.io - Unruly Travel group trips: https://wanderwoman.online/unruly-group-trips/ - How To Make Vegan Friends: https://wanderwoman.online/how-to-make-vegan-friends/ - Join the Unruly Patreon: patreon.com/unrulytravel - Unruly Travel & Living Blog: unrulytravel.com - Unruly email newsletter: buff.ly/4a1bPwT - Support the podcast: SoundCloud - @unrulystories, Venmo - @unruytravel - Contact: calenotto@gmail.com - Unruly Instagram: www.instagram.com/unruly_traveller Beagles rescue Wisconsin | beagles saved from lab
- From Baywatch to Trial for Animal Rescue, feat. Alexandra Paul
Alexandra Paul may be best known as a Hollywood actress starring in Baywatch, but most people in our movement know her for her bold and daring rescue and investigative work around factory farms. My first introduction to Alexandra was during the Sonoma trial of Wayne Hsiung, when Alexandra was one of our witnesses. Watching hours of footage from different angles of the Sunrise demonstration, rescue and civil disobedience, she impressed me with her demeanor and confidence. And why shouldn't Alexandra be confident? She had already been acquitted for rescuing chickens from a slaughterhouse truck and been a long time activist for animal, environmental, and anti-war causes. She's done numerous undercover investigations of factory farms, like the recent expose of Mountaire chicken facilities run by a major donor to Donald Trump. I'm blown away that someone like Alexandra, who could spend her time living in the lap of luxury, instead goes into hellhole factory farms to expose what's being hidden inside, and willing to sit in a jail cell for doing so. I've really enjoyed whenever I've gotten a chance to talk or joke around with Alexandra, but we have never really had a chance to really go in depth about life and activism beyond the immediate task at hand. So this was a joy, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. - Way Beyond Baywatch: Making Waves for Change with Alexandra Paul
I thought, “You know, I need another adventure,” and I was worried it was going to ruin my career. But it turned out to actually be very good for my acting career. Because after you come off a series like Baywatch, everyone thinks you're just incompetent and dumb and I don't know, they just don't give you any credit for anything. And then you go do an Ironman. -Alexandra Paul In today’s encore episode, we dive deep into the life and mission of Alexandra Paul, beyond the accolades, discovering who actress Alexandra Paul is at her core and what drives her. Alexandra shares her incredible story of deciding in 6th grade to remain child-free by choice and how that decision has shaped her activism, including her TEDx talk on overpopulation—a topic she passionately believes needs more attention. We discuss her transformation to vegetarianism at 14, inspired by Diet for a Small Planet , and how a year between high school and college sparked her love for acting, leading to a career where she stood firm in her ethics, refusing to wear fur or use makeup tested on animals. She also opens up about her battle with an eating disorder during her teens and early 20s, her fears around restricting dairy, and the profound moment at 47 when she went vegan and her heart “cracked open,” seeing the injustices of the world more clearly. We touch on her direct action activism, where Alexandra literally takes a stand—physically—for her beliefs, having been arrested over 25 times. She discusses the privileges that allow her to engage in civil disobedience, her training in it, and some of the experiences that have stood out, including moments of fear and claustrophobia. This conversation is rich with reflections on activism, personal growth, and the ongoing journey of recovery from bulimia. Alexandra’s story is not just about overcoming challenges—it’s a powerful reminder of how our choices, big and small, can shape a better world. You won’t want to miss this one! - #59 Forget Being Nice, Be Kind Instead With Alexandra Paul
In this dynamic episode with Alexandra Paul, we traverse a few different (but interconnected) topics about the body and finding freedom. On the topic of animal rights, Alexandra tells us what "open rescue" is and why it is so important, encourages us to plan actions with others and feel invigorated, and tells us about her many arrests over the years. On the topic of human bodies, she explains why she was in therapy from age 16 to 28 struggling with disordered eating, and what she's learned on her path to feeling more at peace with herself and food. Now she helps others battling body issues in an unconventional way, and shares bright hope for the future that our culture so desperately needs. “I used to think that being nice was the most important thing. Now I know that being nice is trying to make everyone happy; kind is an action you take from your inner soul.” *Please remember to leave a review for the podcast!* Catch Alexandra on the Switch4Good podcast: https://switch4good.org/podcast/ Check out the NEW Unruly Eating & Veganism section of the blog: https://wanderwoman.online/index.php/unruly-veganism/ Buy the Unruly Travel Guide: wanderwoman.online/index.php/unrulystore/ Unruly Travel & Living Blog: wanderwoman.online Unruly email newsletter: https://buff.ly/4a1bPwT Join the Unruly Podcast on Patreon: www.patreon.com/unrulytravel The Travel Blog: UnrulyTravel.com Unruly Travellers Facebook Group: www.facebook.com/groups/unrulytravellers/ Contact: calenotto@gmail.com Unruly Instagram: www.instagram.com/unruly_traveller/

- Eating Disorders, What We Knew Before and What We Know Now, with Alexandra Paul
Alexandra Paul wasn’t allowed sugar as a kid but she snuck it anyway, not for the taste but for the comfort it provided. As a teen, Alexandra’s modeling and acting careers were going great. Her relationship with food, on the other hand, had become a real mess. At boarding school, it seemed right and normal to deny herself food in order to be as skinny as possible. The other girls were doing it and no one ever talked about it as a disorder. Over time, as she moved into modeling in New York City and acting in Hollywood, the anorexia turned to bulimia and she got hooked on the ritual of bingeing and purging. She’s stayed away from that behavior for the last 30 years but still feels like she could slip back if she’s not careful. Dr. Jillian Lampert, who also dealt with eating disorders herself as a young person, is the Chief Strategy Officer for the Emily Project, an organization that treats and studies eating disorders. She says there’s a lot of recent research indicating that genetics are much more responsible for who will develop eating disorders of all kinds than we previously thought. - Overpopulation with Alexandra Paul
How on earth do we manage overpopulation? From David Attenborough to Thanos, it’s widely discussed, but rarely with solutions. It can feel taboo and dangerous to talk about, but it should be an important aspect of every environmental discussion. On the one hand, we know that overpopulation makes every environmental pressure that we put on the environment worse. On the other, we are inundated with messages that having children is the ultimate goal in life. In this episode, environmental activist and ex-baywatch actress Alexandra Paul joins me in talking about the overpopulation issue and what we can do about it. In it, we discuss why overpopulation is so difficult to talk about, why it is an issue, and what are some of the many solutions that can be done to empower people to manage, discuss and be mindful of overpopulation. Because this can be an uncomfortable topic, we would love to hear your opinions on this and whether there are any follow up questions that I could put to Alexandra. Remember to write in at max@mahbonline.org ! Alexandra is an actress who has appeared in over 100 films and television shows. She is most known for her 5 year stint on the tv show Baywatch. Alexandra, however, has been an activist since she was very young. The United Nations honored Alexandra in 1997 for her work on the human overpopulation issue. She was the ACLU of Southern California’s 2005 Activist of the Year for her history of environmentalism, voter registration and peace advocacy. Last Chance For Animals named her 2014 Vegan of the Year. Alexandra has been driving electric cars for over 30 years and was featured in the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? She has produced an award winning educational film on overpopulation, and her TEDx talk on the benefits of small families has over 600,000 views. Alexandra volunteered in Sierra Leone with Population Media Center and has spoken to over 6,000 California students, from middle school to university, on the human overpopulation issue. She believes that unless we reduce birth rates, the human race will not be able to successfully mitigate the effects of climate change.
