Terry Tucker is an author, speaker, and podcast guest on the topics of motivation, mindset, and self-development. He has a business administration degree from The Citadel (where he played NCAA Division I college basketball) and a master’s degree from Boston University. • Motivation Amidst a Terminal Diagnosis with Terry Tucker

Doctors told Terry Tucker he would likely be dead in two years. Fourteen years later, he is still here, still trusting Jesus, and still telling the truth about what it costs to keep going with terminal cancer. We talk with Terry about living with a rare form of melanoma that started as a wound on the bottom of his foot and turned into years of surgeries, brutal treatments, and eventually amputation and wheelchair life. He walks us through the real timeline: Interferon that made him feel like he had the flu every week for years, toxic complications...

  • Turning Death Sentences into Life Sentences: SWAT Negotiations, & the 4 Truths with Terry Tucker

What does an elite mindset look like when your own body becomes the crisis zone? This week on A Silent War Within , co-host Makayla Davidson and guest host Jason Meinershagen run the shift together to anchor the studio while Kevin continues his vigorous medical recovery. Sitting down at the table is Terry Tucker—a former NCAA Division I basketball player, Citadel cadet, undercover narcotics investigator, Cincinnati Police SWAT hostage negotiator, and a 14-year cancer warrior. After enduring multiple knee surgeries, rare melanoma treatments, and the amputations of both his foot in 2018 and his leg in 2020, Terry refuses to let a medical diagnosis dictate his purpose. In this incredibly deep and moving conversation, Terry maps out the exact mental architecture required to process extreme physical trauma, face mortality without fear, and use pain as a classroom for what he calls Sustainable Excellence. In this episode, we unpack: The Cadence of Negotiation: Terry shares how de-escalating barricaded suspects on the streets of Cincinnati taught him that relational understanding breeds trust—and how that field-level mindset flipped his cancer diagnosis from a bitter death sentence into an intentional life sentence. The 7-Page Lifeline: A vulnerable look back at Terry's time at the Citadel when he was on the verge of walking away from his Division I basketball scholarship, and the raw, tough-love letter from his father that forced him out of his own head and permanently rewired his mental toughness. The Illusion of Invincibility: Jason and Terry break down why the "tough guy" or the hyper-competent responder is often the one most isolated in the quiet, and why true masculinity and strength mean dropping the armor to say, "I need help." The Toxicity of Interferon: Terry describes the grueling physical toll of five years on intensive clinical trials, navigating a 108-degree fever in the ICU, and surviving emergency amputations completely isolated from his family during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Unseen Impact: A breathtaking story of a 25-year-old oncology nurse who was on the verge of quitting to work for Amazon, and how simply reading the silent tenacity in Terry's medical file anchored her back to her calling. Terry leaves the Silent War Within brotherhood with a definitive daily challenge: do one small thing every single day that scares you or makes you uncomfortable. When the massive, unavoidable disasters of life finally strike, you will have built the unyielding baseline resilience needed to stand steady. • Resilience, Purpose, and the Power of Perspective with Terry Tucker

"Doctors told me I had two years to live. That was 13 years ago. I realized then—my job wasn't to worry about dying. It was to focus on living." Show Notes: Resilience, Purpose, and the Power of Perspective with Terry Tucker I've always believed that life isn't about avoiding challenges—it's about how we respond when they show up. In this episode of The Relentless Pursuit of Winning , I sit down with Terry Tucker, a man who knows a thing or two about resilience. From serving as a SWAT hostage negotiator to battling a rare form of cancer for over a decade, Terry's story is a masterclass in perseverance, mindset, and finding purpose through adversity. We talk about what it really means to sustain excellence—not just achieving success, but maintaining it over the long haul. Terry shares the lessons he's learned from speaking on over 700 podcasts and writing Sustainable Excellence , breaking down how to push past fear, redefine what success means for yourself, and keep moving forward no matter what life throws your way. Key Takeaways: Fear is a Roadblock—Until You Challenge It – The worst-case scenario is rarely as bad as we imagine. Identifying and confronting fear head-on is the first step toward growth. Excellence is Personal – There's no universal definition of excellence; it's about defining and pursuing what it means for you. Sustainable Success is About Continuous Growth – Staying at the top requires ongoing adaptation, innovation, and learning—resting on past wins leads to stagnation. Find Meaning in the Struggle – Hardships don't define us—how we respond to them does. Adopting a mindset of resilience turns adversity into an opportunity. Connection is Everything – Deep, meaningful conversations and relationships fuel success. Being genuinely curious about others can open unexpected doors. Terry doesn't just talk about resilience—he lives it every day. If you're someone who's hit a plateau, faced setbacks, or just needs a reminder of why you started in the first place, this episode will give you the tools and mindset to keep going. • I'd Waste It All Again Feat. Terry Tucker

Day 12 of the 12 days of Christmas Series! 🎄☃️🎊 If time were ours to bargain with, would we spend it any differently? Would we cherish it more, or waste it all the same, just to feel its weight in our hands again? In this deeply moving episode, your Local Neighborhood Baby chats with Terry Tucker—a man in the thick of a battle with cancer, a former SWAT hostage negotiator, and a beacon of resilience. Terry’s story is not about what’s been taken but about what remains: trust, empathy, and the choice to persist, even when life is unbearably heavy. He shares the truths that have shaped him, guiding him through the darkest hours: the courage to embrace pain, the discipline to master the mind, and the profound understanding that legacy is not measured in time but in the love and impact we leave behind. To hear Terry speak is to be reminded of life’s fragile beauty. His words call us to sit with discomfort, to trust in human connection, and to savor every moment—even the ones we wish would pass. If I could have it back—all the time spent listening, learning, laughing—I’d waste it all again, and again, and again. Because moments like this, shared in honesty and hope, are never truly wasted.
