Follow Dario Amodei— it's freeDario Amodei
“Whether you like Amodei or not, at least he’s a leader.” — Andrew Keen Dario Amodei is the most interesting man in America right now. Not because he runs a $500 billion company or because he’s suing the Trump administration or because Anthropic’s Claude topped the iPhone charts. But because he’s doing something nobody else in Silicon Valley has the balls to do: he’s acting like a human being in public. He has principles, he states them, and he accepts the consequences. That’s leadership. It shouldn’t be remarkable. In 2026, it is. This week’s That Was The Week is about how America both loves and hates AI. An NBC poll found 60–70% of Americans are concerned about AI — making it even less popular than the Democratic Party (quite an achievement). A hundred planned data centers have been cancelled because of local protests. 10,000 authors published an anti AI manifesto at the London Book Fair this week. Each week, in contrast, a billion people used ChatGPT, but these users often seem oblivious to its weaknesses. So Keith’s AI-generated video for the show was, by universal agreement (including his own), not going to win an Oscar tomorrow. Except for Most Sloppy AI generated video. Every road this week led back to Amodei who is anything but sloppy. He’s become a Rorschach test for the entire industry. Tech progressives Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway are lauding him. The MAGA crowd — including David Sacks, Trump’s AI czar — on the All In podcast are doing the opposite. Keith thinks Dario is a naive CEO making bad business decisions — comparing him to his own doomed battle in the late Nineties against Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer. It’s a fair point. Should a tech CEO really be setting AI policy? Keith’s answer is no — that’s for people like David Sacks appointed by executive, legislative, and judicial branches. I’m not so sure. In an America defined by its dysfunctional political system, we need leaders like Amodei to take ethical stands. If not, then who? The IPO race this year between Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI makes this particularly interesting. I wonder whether Amodei might use the IPO itself to force a public debate that nobody in government is willing to have. Not just about guardrails or weapons — but about what kind of society AI is building and who gets to decide what does and doesn’t get used. Musk, by publicly embracing white racists and other groups of hate, is making his politics clear. Sam Altman, as always, is wearing every hat simultaneously. Amodei, in contrast, knows his hat. Rather than MAGA, it should say: The Most Interesting Man in America. He’s got my vote. Even if he’s not running for office. Five Takeaways • AI Is Less Popular Than the Democrats: An NBC poll found 60–70% of Americans are concerned about AI. A hundred data centres have been cancelled due to local protests. 10,000 authors published an anti-AI manifesto at the London Book Fair. Close to a billion people use ChatGPT each week — but the haters are the non-users, and they outnumber the lovers by a wide margin. • Amodei Is the 21st Century’s First Real Leader: He’s suing the Trump administration. He’s refusing to let Claude be used for autonomous weapons. He’s accepting the business consequences. Keith thinks he’s naive. I think he’s the only person in Silicon Valley acting like a human being in public. The debate between us is the show. • Keith Compares Amodei to His Own Doomed Battle Against Ballmer: In the late Nineties, Keith fought Microsoft with RealNames and lost. He sees Amodei on the same trajectory — noble, principled, already finished. I compared Keith to Pete Hegseth declaring the Iranian regime defeated. The MAGA crowd on All In, including Trump’s AI czar David Sacks, agree with Keith. That alone should give him pause.</p
Dario Amodei: Anthropic CEO on Claude, AGI & the Future of AI & Humanity | Lex Fridman Podcast #452 → https://lexfridman.com/dario-amodei-transcript/
The AI Tsunami is Here & Society Isn't Ready | Dario Amodei x Nikhil Kamath | People by WTF → https://youtu.be/68ylaeBbdsg?si=6GocOGBReH_WzZCo

In this episode of Mere Mortals Book Reviews, I break down The Adolescence of Technology by Dario Amodei and why it reads less like a tech article and more like a civilisational warning memo. We explore AI safety, misuse, power, economic disruption, and the frightening speed at which these systems are advancing. The core tension is brutal: if this technology keeps accelerating without real guardrails, humanity may not get a second chance to correct the course. https://www.darioamodei.com/essay/the-adolescence-of-technology (00:00) – Welcome Back to Mere Mortals (00:39) – Why I’m Reviewing More Long-Form Articles (01:09) – Who Is Dario Amodei and Why He Matters (01:37) – What The Adolescence of Technology Is Really About (02:08) – The Five Big AI Risks in the Article (03:04) – The “Country of Geniuses” Thought Experiment (04:18) – The Two Extreme Narratives About AI (06:00) – Why Dario’s Position Makes This Different (07:21) – This Is Happening in Years, Not Decades (08:08) – Anthropic, Government Pressure and Ethical Boundaries (09:50) – Safety vs Speed in the AI Arms Race (10:21) – Why Governance and Guardrails Matter (11:31) – AI, Power Seizure and Geopolitical Risk (12:33) – The Meaning Behind “The Adolescence of Technology” (13:00) – Work, Meaning and the Coming Economic Upheaval (14:02) – What Happens If We Fail to Slow Down (15:16) – Who This Article Is For (15:58) – Final Reflections and Why It Hit So Hard Connect with Mere Mortals: Website: https://www.meremortalspodcast.com/ Discord: https://discord.gg/jjfq9eGReU Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/meremortalspods Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meremortalspodcasts/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@meremortalspodcast Connect with Mere Mortals: Website: https://www.meremortalspodcasts.com/ Discord: https://discord.gg/Xs9DjsurFq Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/meremortalspods Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meremortalspodcasts/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@meremortalspodcasts Value 4 Value Support: Website: https://www.meremortalspodcasts.com/support Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/meremortalspodcast
Dario Amodei, the former head of R&D at OpenAI, left the company in 2021 due to growing concerns over the rapid commercialization and safety of AI technology. Alongside his sister, Daniela Amodei, he co-founded Anthropic, a firm now valued at $183 billion. With the exceptional performance of its Claude models—particularly in coding—Anthropic has emerged as OpenAI's most formidable rival. Amodei frequently sounds the alarm on the risks of advanced AI, describing powerful models as "a sovereign brain in a data center." He warns that there is a non-negligible risk of catastrophic outcomes and predicts that AI could replace 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years. He also emphasizes that without proper oversight, AI could be weaponized by bad actors to develop biological weapons, posing a severe threat to national security. This episode focuses on Dario Amodei and the AI ethical frameworks he champions at Anthropic, which enable models to self-supervise based on core principles. Amodei believes humanity is currently in a "technological adolescence" that will determine our survival. He maintains that only through transparent regulatory mechanisms can we ensure AI leads us toward a prosperous future rather than total destruction. 📚 Learn more about Taiwan’s startup ecosystem 👉🏼 https://meetstartup.pse.is/4jhd5u 🚀 Stay connected with Taiwan–Silicon Valley innovation via the Startup Island TAIWAN Silicon Valley Hub Website: https://sv.startupisland.tw/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/startup-island-taiwan-sv / Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Startup-Island-Taiwan-Silicon-Valley-Hub/61586221303202/ Powered by Firstory Hosting
Discover the story of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, the physicist-turned-AI leader shaping the future of safe and democratic artificial intelligence. [INTRO] ALEX: Most people think the race for Artificial Intelligence is just a battle of raw power, but Dario Amodei actually walked away from the biggest engine in the world because he thought it was moving too fast without a seatbelt. JORDAN: Wait, you're talking about the guy who basically helped build OpenAI, right? Why would anyone quit the frontrunner right when things were getting good? ALEX: Exactly. He didn't just quit; he took a group of top researchers with him to build a rival called Anthropic, all because he’s obsessed with one question: how do we stop a super-intelligence from accidentally ruining everything? JORDAN: So he’s the safety guy. But let’s be real, can you actually be the safety guy and still win the tech race? ALEX: That is the multi-billion dollar question we are answering today. [CHAPTER 1 - Origin] ALEX: To understand Dario, you have to look at his background in physics. He earned his PhD from Princeton, specifically focusing on how complex systems behave, which set the stage for how he views AI today. JORDAN: So he's not a traditional code-monkey. He's looking at the world through the lens of atoms and mathematical probability. ALEX: Precisely. In the early 2010s, the AI world was still niche, but Dario saw the scaling laws coming. He worked at Baidu and then Google, where he started seeing that if you just threw more data and more chips at these models, they didn't just get slightly better—they jumped in capability. JORDAN: And this was back when AI was just helping us tag photos or filter spam? It seems like a leap to go from that to 'it might end the world.' ALEX: The world back then was obsessed with making AI work, period. But Dario was at OpenAI when they were developing GPT-2 and GPT-3. He was the Vice President of Research. He saw firsthand that these machines were starting to exhibit behaviors the creators didn't explicitly program into them. JORDAN: That’s the 'Black Box' problem. We build the brain, but we don't actually know what it's thinking. ALEX: Exactly. By 2020, a rift started forming inside OpenAI. Reportedly, Dario and his sister, Daniela Amodei, worried that the company was becoming too commercial and sacrificing safety protocols to beat competitors to the punch. JORDAN: So they decided to go rogue. Or, I guess, go 'safe' rogue. [CHAPTER 2 - Core Story] ALEX: In 2021, Dario, Daniela, and several senior OpenAI researchers split off to found Anthropic. They didn't just want to build another chatbot; they wanted to build a 'Constitutional AI.' JORDAN: Constitutional? Like, the AI has a set of rights? Or it has to follow a Bill of Rights? ALEX: More like the latter. Instead of humans manually checking every single answer to see if it's 'good' or 'bad'—which is slow and biased—Dario’s team gives the AI a written constitution. The AI then trains itself to follow those principles, like being helpful, honest, and harmless. JORDAN: It sounds noble, but Anthropic is worth tens of billions now. Amazon and Google have poured billions into them. How does Dario stay the 'safety guy' when he’s taking massive checks from the biggest corporations on earth? ALEX: That’s where it gets complicated. Dario is playing a high-stakes game. He argues that you can't build safe AI from a basement; you need the massive compute power that only the giants have. He released Claude, their flagship model, to prove that a 'constitutional' model could be just as smart—if not smarter—than GPT. JORDAN: But there’s a darker side to his strategy lately, right? I've heard him talking about 'decisive advantage' and military applications. That doesn't sound very 'harmless.' ALEX: You're touching on his 'entente' strategy. Dario recent
I sat down with Dario Amodei in Bangalore. He built Claude, but he started as a biologist looking for a tool to cure disease. Today, he's at the helm of an AI revolution that he compares to a tsunami society is actively ignoring. We got into the heavy stuff: why Anthropic secretly withheld a working model before ChatGPT existed, whether AI is on the verge of consciousness, and if outsourcing our thinking is going to make humans measurably stupider. Dario makes the case that coding is a dying skill, critical thinking is our last real edge, and the absurd concentration of power in AI right now is a massive problem—even though he’s one of the people holding it. #nikhilkamath Co founder of Zerodha and Gruhas Host of “WTF is” and “People By WTF” Podcast Twitter: https://x.com/nikhilkamathcio/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nikhilkamathcio/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nikhilkamathcio/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nikhilkamathcio/ #Darioamodei LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dario-amodei/ X: https://x.com/DarioAmodei Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dario.amodei/ Watch “WTF is” Podcast on Spotify https://tinyurl.com/4nsm4ezn Watch “People By WTF” Podcast on Spotify https://tinyurl.com/yme92c59 Watch “WTF Online” on Spotify https://tinyurl.com/4tjua4th #WTFiswithnikhilkamath #PeopleByWTF #WTFOnline #claude #claudeindia #podcast #anthropic #anthropicclaude #anthropicai #ai #aivideo #claude Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction 06:13 Scaling laws explained simply 13:27 Trust, humility, and corporate motives 22:44 Using Claude personally, AI knowing you 31:03 Rich people criticizing their own system 37:05 India's role and IT partnerships 44:15 Will AI surpass humans at everything 50:17 Career advice for young Indians 56:38 Open source vs closed AI models 1:02:40 Biotech as the next big bet
