  • 076: Angry About ICE? Trump Might Have You on a Watchlist feat. Ken Klippenstein
    Posting Through It

Jared and Mike speak with seasoned national security reporter Ken Klippenstein about the expansion of national surveillance programs targeting anti-ICE activists and community organizers, alongside others they consider threats to the MAGA political agenda. While DHS denies that the agency maintains databases of so-called "domestic terrorists," Ken's reporting revealed that to be plainly untrue. Ken shares what he's learned about the watchlists and databases ICE uses, how advancements in technology them more threatening to civil liberties, and how they sit in America's history of secretive domestic surveillance programs. The guys also get Ken's take on Kash Patel's tenure as FBI director. You'll want to fire up the Paramount+ and place that Uber Eats order for this one, but don't forget to look cool while doing it. After all, you never know who might be watching. • ICE vs. Your Lyin’ Eyes feat. Ken Klippenstein (Premium E319) Sample
    QAA Podcast

Liv, Jake, and Travis grapple with the killing of Renee Good by an ICE Agent in Minneapolis. Though the incident was captured on video from multiple angles, discourse about it was immediately swallowed by a churn of regime spin, conspiracy narratives, and AI-assisted fakery. To get a better idea of how Department of Homeland Security leadership thinks and operates, Travis interviews independent journalist Ken Klippenstein about internal DHS documents recently leaked to him. Then Jake gives us his report from the fever swamps. The reactions include the inevitable “paid agitator” allegations and a megaphone-wielding QAnon figure who appears at protests to openly taunt crowds with violent rhetoric. • Are You On The FBI’s New Watch List? (With Ken Klippenstein)
    Lever Time

Last week, President Donald Trump dramatically altered the U.S. government’s approach to domestic terrorism. NSPM-7 , a little-noticed national security directive, expands the list of terrorism indicators to include any behavior that is deemed anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-capitalist, extreme on gender, hostile towards “traditional American views” on family, and more. Today on Lever Time , producer Ariella Markowitz sits down with independent investigative journalist Ken Klippenstein, who first sounded the alarm about the memorandum’s ability to suppress free speech and target Trump’s political opponents. • The Scandal That Could Actually Break Trump's Base (ft. Ken Klippenstein)
    Cancel Me, Daddy

Donald Trump is bungling the Jeffrey Epstein scandal in real time. The Trump-Epstein connection is the politics news of the month, with no end in sight to further developments about the extent of the so-called “Epstein files” that may or may not be in the administration’s possession. Trump’s MAGA base is openly angry at him for seemingly the first time over the course of two administrations. Some Republicans have demanded answers, even as GOP leaders have shut down the House to stop Democrats from pursuing the release of further information. Both parties are using the scandal to their advantage, to the detriment of Epstein’s real-life victims and survivors. This week, Katelyn and Christine interview independent journalist Ken Klippenstein about the Epstein discourse that split MAGA and might finally, finally stick to Teflon Don. Terrific guy,” Trump booms from a speakerphone. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.” In this episode, we cover: • The documented Trump-Epstein connection timeline • Political psychology of scandal immunity • How conservative media frames controversial stories • Progressive analysis of MAGA loyalty dynamics This isn't just another Trump scandal breakdown - it's a deep dive into American political tribalism and the media narratives that shape public opinion. 💬 What do YOU think? • Monopolies and Censorship in Elections with Ken Klippenstein
    Organized Money

We hear a lot about how Big Tech uses algorithms to serve up information - but on this episode, we have a story about how they also use their power to control what you can see and hear. After independent journalist Ken Klippenstein wrote a story sharing a dossier about J.D. Vance, allegedly obtained in an Iranian hack of the Trump campaign, X suspended his account and blocked links to his Substack. People that shared his post on X had their accounts suspended and were told to take down the post if they wanted their accounts reinstated. This is a cautionary tale about how Big Tech uses its power to limit speech, and how that's not limited to going after one political party or persuasion. • Leak: US Government Plans To Police ‘Disinformation’ – with Ken Klippenstein

Click here for the full episode, including the extended interview with Ken Klippenstein on the DHS leak. “This isn’t a Biden story. It’s not a Trump story either. This is a national security state story.” This week Ken Klippenstein and Lee Fang at The Intercept broke a huge story: Leaked Documents Outline DHS’s Plans to Police Disinformation . Ken joins Useful Idiots to share how he uncovered the bombshell revelation, what it tells us about our powerful security state, and his predictions for the dark future of information censorship. The story, which reveals collusion between tech companies and the US government, massive CIA incompetence, and Orwellian levels of surveillance, is not a partisan issue, Klippenstein argues. It’s an issue of national security. And yet looking at the headlines from corporate media following The Intercept’s publishing, there was immediate political spin. The Washington Post told its readers that only conservatives would “ go after DHS counter-disinformation work ,” which means good Democrats should celebrate speech censorship. Meanwhile, as Ken writes in his story, Republicans claim we’ve defeated disinformation by taking down Biden’s disinformation governance board, ignoring that the same DHS tactics happened under Trump. “It’s crammed into this partisan framework,” he explains, “that doesn’t reflect the reality that when someone’s in power they tend not to care about free speech.” And the scariest part, Ken tells us, “this is not formalized in statute. There's no law saying ‘we're going to create the disinformation team.’ They can do this administratively without sign off from Congress. And they probably have beyond what I'm able to report because I'm only able to get details that my sources have access to. We don't know what else might exist.” It’s a huge story that, as with most issues you see on Useful Idiots, is dangerously underreported. • America's Human Trafficking Governor feat. Ken Klippenstein
What a Hell of a Way to Dad

This week, Francis speaks with investigative reporter and friend of the show Ken Klippenstein about a recent story that he's covered: the fact that the governor of Florida duped a bunch of migrants with a promise of job skills training and instead flew them to Martha's Vinyard in order to own the libs. It was paid for with money from a GOP donor, and when things didn't go the way conservative media wanted them to, they just made up a fake version of reality where they did. • Morale is Low at the DHS / MAGA Office (feat. Ken Klippenstein)
What a Hell of a Way to Dad

This week, Nate and Francis speak with friend of the show and investigative reporter Ken Klippenstein about the various things he's got going on: reporting on DHS, reporting on labor law violations, and reporting on people in the military deciding to refuse one specific vaccine--it's a great time. Ken's got a new story out about how the leaders of the Senate GOP endorsed 'Afghan Resistance' have actually fled the country. Get it on the Intercept here: https://theintercept.com/2021/09/21/afghanistan-taliban-ahmad-massoud-flee/?utm_campaign=theintercept&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social This week, Francis speaks with secret military lawyer Pat about the recent 'Woke Military' report commissioned by extremely smart Congressman Dan Crenshaw. It's a joke, but it gets to a significant issue: the problems that service members are facing do involve bad organizational practice, but they aren't about 'wokeness' and the only people complaining about that are probably not worth listening to. Sounds normal to me! For this week's bonus, we're speaking with Rolling Stone journalist and Army veteran Seth Harp on the topic of a string of murders and unexplained deaths at Fort Bragg, NC. Did you know a Delta operator murdered a Green Beret in front of his family and no charges were filed?
