Amelia Dimoldenberg is an English comedian, writer, and the creator and presenter of her sensational Youtube series Chicken Shop Date. Chicken Shop Date began as a column in a youth club magazine, originally focusing on Amelia interviewing British grime artists in chicken shops around London. It has since expanded to one of the most popular series on Youtube, with Amelia interviewing some of the world’s most high profile actors, models, and musicians. Known for her dry, deadpan humour, Dimoldenberg has in recent years begun interviewing celebrities on red carpets, including at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Brit Awards. Her production company Dimz Inc. recently launched Dimz Inc. Academy, a week-long programme for young people interested in working in the creative industries. In this episode of Fashion Neurosis, Bella Freud and Amelia Dimoldenberg discuss The Devil Wears Prada, the appeal of an awkward silence, and how sexy is embarrassing. Welcome to a special edition of The Media Odyssey Podcast from the buzzing beachfront of Cannes Lions! Hosts Marion Ranchet and Evan Shapiro explore the collision of traditional media, streaming giants, and the creator economy in an environment buzzing with brand activations and bold narratives. With viewership migrating to digital but ad dollars lagging behind, the episode dives into how media organizations are rethinking measurement, monetization, and storytelling. They’re joined by three influential voices leading that transformation: Jasmine Dawson , SVP Digital at BBC Studios; Kiell Smith-Bynoe , actor on Ghosts and digital-native performer; and Amelia Dimoldenberg , creator of Chicken Shop Date and founder of Dimz Inc. Each brings a unique perspective on how legacy brands, emerging talent, and creator-first studios are navigating the fast-changing content and advertising landscape. It’s a candid, energetic discussion about creator influence, IP ownership, and the evolving rules of engagement across platforms. Key Takeaways: 1. Fandom is the KPI That Matters BBC Studios has redefined success around fandom, not just views —focusing on watch time, user-generated content (UGC), sentiment, and engagement to drive deeper audience value and commercial return. 2. Thinking Like a Creator Drives Growth With hits like Bluey , BBC Studios is behaving more like a creator: producing platform-native content, partnering with creators, and customizing formats across YouTube, TikTok, and TV—resulting in a 110% YoY revenue jump. 3. Owning IP is a Power Move Amelia Dimoldenberg built Chicken Shop Date independently after being rejected by broadcasters. By keeping full control of her brand and monetizing separately, she turned it into a cultural touchstone and launched her own production company. 4. Creators Aren’t Just Influencers—They’re Partners BBC Studios’ Talent Works program reflects a shift from hiring creators as ad vehicles to co-creating content with them. This partnership model fuels authentic storytelling and long-term brand growth. 5. The Creator Economy Is Equal (or Superior) to Traditional TV Whether it's Chicken Shop Date , improv tours, or digital-first IP expansions, creators are proving their work is just as professional, strategic, and impactful as broadcast content—often with more cultural relevance and flexibility. In episode 102 astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield explore a new listener submission and take on the flirting-but-not-yet-a-couple, Spiderman actor Andrew Garfield and Chicken Shop Date creator/host Amelia Dimoldenberg. These two are not dating, but fans couldn't help but notice their apparent chemistry over the course of several interviews and red carpet exchanges between the two. We take a closer look to see if this is just a flirtatious fling or something that could be the real deal. First, we look at Andrew's chart and find a compassionate, imaginative, and sensitive Pisces Rising. Adding in an expressive and creative Leo Sun (which makes a trine to his chart ruler Neptune), this man was born to work in the entertainment industry. His Sun/Venus conjunction gives him an attractive appeal, while his Aquarius Moon makes him friendship-oriented. Next, we go over Amelia's chart and see a distinct stellium in out-of-the-box Aquarius. This explains her unique style of interviewing celebrities which has catapulted her to fame and popularity. In particular her Sun/Venus conjunction adds a pleasing charm to her quirky approach. We also find a snippy and even harsh side to her personality thanks to a Mercury/Pluto square. Their synastry reveals matching Aquarian Sun and Moon signs - telling us there is a fundamental compatibility and unspoken bond. They also share multiple, positive Mercury aspects, so we can say for certain that their mental exchange is deeply aligned and comfortable. However, with no Venus or Mars contacts and a sharp Mars opposition, the attraction might only be surface level. Listen in to hear what Venus score this potential couple got! What’s the difference between an interview and a first date? For the past decade, Amelia Dimoldenberg has been walking that fine line on her hit YouTube series, Chicken Shop Date . The premise is in the title: filmed at various chicken establishments across London, the show features a series of funny (sometimes awkward) ‘dates’ with everyone from Paul Mescal to Billie Eilish. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of her beloved series, Amelia and Sam have a cup of tea to discuss her recent sit-down with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds (5:00), her upbringing in London (7:20), and how Mary-Kate and Ashley inspired the young creative ambitions (11:10) that lead to Chicken Shop Date (17:17). We also highlight a few pivotal episodes of the show with rapper Ghetts (24:50), actor Daniel Kaluuya (32:10), and documentarian Louis Theroux (32:52). On the back-half, we unpack Dimoldenberg’s comedy influences—from Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation to Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns (36:34), how she continues to expand her reach as an independent creator (43:00), why the ‘anti-interview’ genre has come into vogue (49:12), and what she hopes for in the decade to come (1:02:12).
