  • "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Full Cast Edition)" with Rhianna Dhillon

Ever wonder where the Sorting Hat Ed would place Ed Helms? The answer may surprise you! We're closing out the season with Audible's spectacular full-cast audio edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone . Ed sits down with film and TV critic Rhianna Dhillon, a self-proclaimed Harry Potter superfan, to explore J.K. Rowling's wizarding world and what makes this new immersive production so magical. They get into which Hogwarts subjects they'd actually want to study and unpack why the pursuit of immortality holds such power in fiction. They also geek out over the audiobook's phenomenal sound design, and discuss why this production is the perfect entry point for both longtime fans and first-time listeners. • Men in Black II (2002) with Rhianna Dhillon
    Ramblin: An Amblin Podcast

We’re back - in black - to get things rolling for Ramblin in 2024. We’re checking in with the MIB franchise, investigating the bad case of sequelitius that seems to have infected the Barry Sonnenfeld directed follow up to the 1997 sci-fi comedy classic. Both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return from Amblin past, and so does our guest -critic and broadcaster Rihanna Dhillon. Together, we dig into the film's dragged out road to production, stressful shooting schedule and try to put our finger on just what is missing from this misfire of a sequel. But always remember, when there’s an Amblin movie to discuss, the elite is here, so have no fear, just, let me see you, NOD YA HEAD. You can follow Rhianna on Twitter @RhiannaDhillon and you can listen to her on BBC Radio 6 Music and catch PodPod (@podpodofficiak) wherever you get your podcasts. Follow the podcast on Twitter (@RamblinAmblin) and be sure to like and subscribe so you don’t miss an episode! Get in touch with us either via Twitter or email rambinaboutamblin@gmail.com . A special thanks as always to Emily Tatham for the artwork, and Robert J. Hunter-Clayton & Greg Sheffield for the theme music.

  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) (with Rhianna Dhillon)
    Fantasy/Animation

No sooner have Chris and Alex finished their examination of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Chris Columbus, 2002) than they make a swift return to Hogwarts for the third (and best?) in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Alfonso Cuarón, 2004). Joining them in this instalment to separate their Leaky Cauldrons from their Time-Turners is very special guest Rhianna Dhillon , Film/TV critic and Presenter who has featured on BBC Radio One, Front Row, Sky News, and Channel 5, and is currently the film critic for BBC6Music and Radio 5 Live as well as regularly appearing on Kermode and Mayo's Take . Listen as they get to grips with Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘darker’ approach to the Harry Potter universe as a vital moment of change for the series; fantastical transformation stories and the power of the VFX animagus; enchantment and wizarding spells of de-animation; the power of Pam Ferris as the magically-inflating Aunt Marge; shifting narrative chronology and the film’s links to Hollywood’s emergent ‘puzzle film’ tradition; the visualisation of childhood trauma through the dark Dementors; and how Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban successfully captures Harry’s anger at a world in which his family, friendships, and loyalties are becoming increasing fractured and fragmented. ** Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo**

  • HERE BE WITCHES 14 • Practical Magic (1998) with Rhianna Dhillon

It’s Valentine’s Day, and we couldn’t resist talking about one of my own childhood favourites, Practical Magic . It’s a mix of romcom, horror, fantasy, drama and it’s weird as hell and very much peak nineties. The story centers on Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman), the latest in a long line of witches who bear a particular curse: any man who dares to fall in love with an Owens woman will meet an untimely death. All grown up, Gillian gets involved with an abusive ‘Transylvanian cowboy’ who they accidentally kill. And then, not so accidentally, bring back to life. What follows is both a romance drama, horror film and procedural. Our special guest this episode is film critic and nineties romcom pundit Rhianna Dhillon, and we discuss the cheesiness of Practical Magic, thirst over the actors, and discuss how it tackles real-life horrors like domestic abuse and stalking whilst remaining a blend of supernatural horror and romantic. *** To coincide with our season of films and events, Here Be Witches, we will be focusing this first series on exploring all things witchcraft on film. Each episode, we will dive deep into films and TV shows that we can’t necessarily screen. Each episode, we’ll be joined with special guests to dissect and discuss a film or show, its legacy and the way witches are represented.
