In this Forum, former Governor Michael Dukakis questioned former Greek Prime Minister and IOP Visiting Fellow George Papandreou about his experiences as Prime Minister, factors that contributed to the debt crisis, the effectiveness of the European Union's response and the future of Europe. In addition, Papandreou and Dukakis discussed austerity policies in times of economic crisis, corruption in Greece and the importance of developing good institutions. The audience's questions largely related to different aspects of these topics, including Germany's role in the debt crisis, the challenges and opportunities associated with governing during a time of economic crisis and extremism and nationalism in Europe.
