  • Happy Hour #343: Jamie Grace

My guest for The Happy Hour #343 is Jamie Grace. Jamie Grace is a contemporary Christian music artist who started her career at age 14. She has made several albums, and recently released a book called Finding Quiet: My Journey to Peace in an Anxious World. In today's episode, Jamie talks about finding quiet through seasons of change, growing up in the public eye as a teen star, and the process of transitioning her image from child fame to a grown, married adult with a family. She also shares about her experience with mental illness and postpartum depression, and how important it is to seek help when we need it. I think in a lot of ways we all struggle to ask for help because it makes us feel inadequate or less than, but I love when Jamie says “I cannot rely on my feelings, which are so inconsistent. I have to rely on the truth.” For the full summary and show links, click the link below! Connect with Jamie Facebook // Twitter // Instagram // YouTube GET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

  • #96: Finding Quiet with Jamie Grace

This week on Real Talk with Rachael I'm talking with two-time Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and actress Jamie Grace about her mental health journey and her new book, Finding Quiet . Diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, OCD, ADHD, and anxiety at a young age, Jamie actively advocates for joy, wellness, and mental health through the lens of music, film, and faith. An entertainer at heart, she regularly creates fresh content, including new music and weekly videos and episodes of The Jamie Grace Podcast . When she isn't touring, Jamie lives in Southern California with her husband, Aaron, and daughter, Isabella Brave. We're talking about: Jamie's book Finding Quiet started as a journal through her early adulthood dealing with mental health issues and being in the spotlight. If you find yourself overwhelmed, tell someone and get the support you need. Be clear about your needs and intentional with the follow-through without feeling guilt or shame. Jamie grew up in the church and asked for a miracle healing, but God's will is for her is to let Him use her where she is and trust that He will bring healing in due time. Mental health problems are not due to a lack of faith. One of the most helpful things for Jamie is having an accountability circle that regularly asks her what they can do to help. You can start to discover your needs by noticing when things are going well and analyzing why. See what's working. It can be as simple and practical as going outside for 5 minutes or drinking a glass of water. Changing your perspective by finding things to be thankful for can bring joy in the midst of pain. "We have to learn how to allow pain and joy to co-exist." Acknowledging and accepting that some people won't want to be your friend and focusing on the people around you who do. "Finding quiet is not about taking all the noise away, it's about learning how to have peace in the midst of it." • Happy Hour #203: Jamie Grace

My guest for The Happy Hour # 203 is Jamie Grace. Jamie is a 2-time GRAMMY nominated singer-songwriter who started out sharing a mixture of improv comedy, cover songs and sharing her life story on YouTube at just 14 years old. At the time, Jamie was newly diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, OCD, ADHD and Anxiety. Twelve years later, Jamie is a touring artist as well as podcaster, and author. But Jamie says at the core of it all she's still an awkward kid on YouTube hoping to inspire others -- and make friends :) You guys have been asking and asking and it's here!!! On this week's show I get to talk with the amazing Jamie Grace and I know you are going to love this Happy Hour. Jamie and I jump in and start talking about how it all started - she tells us about when she was 14 years old, she posted a video on YouTube as a way to channel her energy and creativity. Between the ages of 9 -13 years old, Jamie struggled with her emotions, friendships, and the diagnoses of Tourette Syndrome OCD, ADHD, and Anxiety. She realized creative outlets were a path to freedom and discovery about God's purpose for her, and how she could rebuild her life. Of course, I had to ask her what her parents thought of her posting videos on YouTube when she was just 14! Jamie tells us how they immediately shut it down, but that when they rebooted it, and to this day, her parents are her managers! In the last part of the show, we get to hear the love story of Jamie and her husband Aaron. You're going to love hearing her describe how she knew she was going to marry him the night she met him (even though she didn't even get his name!), and how they didn't reconnect for a year! As many of you know, Jamie has shared so much on being single and living in a season of waiting, such as on her podcast Wait It Out, and she talks openly about what was challenging. Jamie reminds us that no matter what your season of waiting is for, and no matter what the outcome, we can remind ourselves and each other of the joy, peace, and promises that God has for us.
