Show notes David Kaufman David Kaufman is the Director of Global Strategies at Nixon Peabody LLP. In this role, he manages and helps develop strategy for the firm’s International Practice, international offices, and relationships with law firms around the world. David works extensively with clients from the United States doing business around the globe and international clients in the U.S. Last year, David was involved in transactions, cases, and other matters touching almost 140 different countries. He has a long history of doing business in China and has worked with NP’s robust Asia-Pacific practice since its creation. Outside the U.S., NP has offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, and London. During his tenure, David has served in a variety of leadership positions at the firm, including supervising the regional business development function and leading sales teams for an array of practice groups/industries. Since March 2020, David has also been coordinating the firm's external, client-facing Coronavirus Response Team. In addition, he co-leads the Retail Industry Sector team for TerraLex, one of the largest global law firm networks covering 164 jurisdictions in 101 countries. How should companies go about thinking of networking and community building? When should a company join a chamber of commerce and how should they position themselves to get the most out of it? David Kaufman is a seasoned professional auctioneer, commercial real estate lender and owner for over 40 years. "Fireball" is how The Auctioneer Magazine described David Kaufman. He began his real estate and auctioneering career in 1967. Kaufman was the first to conduct auctions for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as well as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the early '80s. In November of 1990, he conducted the first auction of real estate ever held by The Resolution Trust Corporation in this country. Kaufman does a great deal of public speaking and seminars and had taught courses in the MBA program at the Keller Business Institute on real estate decision-making. For five years, he taught a course on Income Property Brokerage at the YMCA Community College in Chicago. In the late 70's Kaufman appeared on MONEY TALK (WCIU-TV, channel 26), for an eight-part real estate investment course with the show's host, Terry Savage. Mr. Kaufman has also appeared on Good Morning America, The Today Show, CNN and Biznet Cable News as well as TV interviews and appearances on TV and radio programs from coast to coast including several on National Public Radio (NPR). Mr. Kaufman, a member of Lambda Alpha (an honorary land economics society) is a CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member www.ccim.com ). His interests and hobbies include hunting, horseback riding, sailing, computer sciences, photography and he is a singer/songwriter (five of his songs are on Spotify and can also be downloaded from iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and many other sites. David Kaufman has had an illustrious career with high net-worth clients, including the Stronachs, Magna Golf Club, and Menkes where he led the development of Four Seasons Private Residences of Toronto. He has also spent time in broadcasting as the producer and co-host of his own show Alternative Investing on the Business News Network. Currently he is President and CEO of Westcourt Capital, an investment firm he founded in 2009. In this episode, David shares his experience working from home, and managing the portfolios of some of Canada’s wealthiest families and institutions, as well as the uninspired story behind the naming of his company.
