Follow Brit Prawat— it's freeAbout Episode: The 1979 Attack and Conviction Nature of the Crime: On September 30, 1979, D'Aiello—who was nine months pregnant at the time—was savagely beaten with a blunt object in her home while her husband, Marine Corporal Kevin Green, was out. Injuries and Loss: The attack left D'Aiello in a coma with severe brain damage, causing her to lose her unborn daughter. Wrongful Conviction: Upon waking with significant memory loss and aphasia, D'Aiello eventually testified that her husband was the attacker. Kevin Green was convicted in 1980 of attempted murder and second-degree murder of their unborn child, serving 16 years in prison. DNA Exoneration True Perpetrator: In 1996, DNA evidence from the crime scene was matched to Gerald Parker, known as the "Bedroom Basher," a serial killer active in Orange County during that period. Exoneration: Kevin Green was declared "factually innocent" and released in 1996. Parker's Conviction: Gerald Parker eventually confessed to the attack on D'Aiello and was sentenced to death in 1999 for this and several other murders. Continuing Controversy Belief in Guilt: Despite the DNA evidence proving Gerald Parker committed the rape and physical assault, D'Aiello has famously maintained her belief that her husband was involved. She has claimed that Parker "waited outside" while her husband beat her first, though there is no forensic evidence to support this theory. Media Coverage: Her story has been featured on numerous true crime programs, including "On the Case with Paula Zahn" (2012) and a 2025/2026 episode of the Crime Junkie Podcast. In 2021, we set out to cover the case of Rhys Pocan, a 35-year-old indigenous woman who was murdered in Wisconsin in the ‘80s. But while we were in the field, we uncovered a disturbing pattern of murders with similarities to Rhys’ that were just too blatant to ignore. So, we spent the next three years working with local and federal law enforcement to try and get to the bottom of it. In Part 1, when Rhys Pocan, a young mother of four, goes missing one summer night in Milwaukee, it sends shockwaves through her community. When her dismembered remains are found on a public hunting ground less than a month later, everyone hopes they might finally get some answers. But investigators struggle to unravel the case … and things don’t heat up until we step in. If you have any information about the murder of Rhys Pocan, please contact Det. Nathan Hatch at the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office at 920-459-3135, or email him at nathan.hatch@sheboygancounty.com . You can also reach out to us at crimejunkie@audiochuck.com . Charlee Pocan Russ has started a GoFundMe to raise money to help solve her mother’s murder. If you would like to donate or learn more, please visit this link . Can’t wait for Part 2?
