Follow Tom Fordyce— it's freeOn this special World Cup edition of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete and Sids are joined by returning host Tom Fordyce and Premier League legend Kasper Schmeichel from sunny Los Angeles as the tournament gets underway. The lads reflect on just how far the podcast has come, swapping memories of recording in less glamorous locations before finding themselves covering football from one of the biggest sporting events in the world. They dive into the incredible atmosphere surrounding the opening days of the World Cup, including Mexico's electric opening match, immersive fan experiences in LA, and the cultural differences between football coverage in Europe and America. Kasper opens up about his recent retirement from football, revealing the shoulder injury that ultimately forced his hand and sharing what life after football looks like. He reflects on his time at Celtic, the relentless pressure of playing for one of football's biggest clubs, and the unforgettable moments that came with lifting trophies in Glasgow. The conversation also turns to Leicester City's historic Premier League title triumph as Kasper relives the madness of the 5000-1 season, reveals the moment the squad truly believed they could win the league, and shares stories from the team's recent ten-year reunion. There's also plenty of World Cup chat as Kasper looks back on his experiences representing Denmark on football's biggest stage, discusses England's chances of finally ending their wait for major silverware, and explains why international tournaments remain unlike anything else in football. Plus, Chris Stark checks in from the Chumbawamba with Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil and Ben Johnston to discuss Scotland's World Cup hopes, Steve Clarke's impact on the national team, and whether the Tartan Army can dare to dream of a historic run. As always, leave your predictions below and let us know who you think will lift the trophy. In our first ever episode of 'In conversation with... Sports Podcast Awards' our founder Dylan Pugh caught up with two giants of the UK podcasting scene. Producer/host of The Socially Distant Sports Bar, Steff Garrero dropped by alongside The Joe Marler Show's Tom Fordyce to chat all things sports podcasting, including how they got started, dealing with celebrity co-hosts and tips for those just starting out.
The Joe Marler Show hangs out with people you’ve never heard of but that you'll never forget; prison governors, marine biologists, tree surgeons and cheesemongers. Funny, sometimes daft, touching and always honest, this podcast takes you on a memorable and extremely enjoyable tour. Tom Fordyce, Joe's co-presenter and “head of jingles”, can think of nothing more enjoyable than going along with him. Despite winning the Premiership, getting recalled to the England squad and having a fourth child, Joe has podcasted every Wednesday for an incredible debut year, reaching 1.5 million downloads. He also found time to make a special Lions series with his mates Dan Cole and Justin Tipuric, and what they lacked in rugby analysis, they made up for with knowledge of Tom Curry’s breakfast routine and the number of hairs on Elliot Daly's feet.
Welcome back to the podcast where this week I take a look back over series one with the help of my partner, TV presenter Michelle Ackerley. It’s been a fantastic start to the podcast and over the course of the past ten week's we've heard from one of the stars of the Peter Crouch Podcast, Tom Fordyce, sprint coach, Margot Wells, sport psychologist, Dr Austin Swain, Fiji rugby player, Nemani Nadolo, New York Knicks performance leader, Erwin Valencia, Andy Murray's strength and conditioning coach, Matt Little, long-time coach of Jessica Ennis-Hill, Tony Minichiello, eye specialist Dr Sherylle Calder and special forces, turned England sevens star, turned entrepreneur, Greg Barden. It really has been a brilliant first series and over the course of this review we pick out some of our favourite moments, discuss what we’ve both learnt as well as expanding the chat out to topics such as working in the media, lessons for life in general and we also briefly look ahead to series 2 in July and tease who some of my next guests will be. This week we're joined by author, journalist and star of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Tom Fordyce. Tom's helped countless sports stars write their autobiographies (Crouch, Jamie Redknapp, Chris Gayle) and now he's going to let us in on how these books we read every week REALLY get made. As well as offering us help to write our own one... Plus Peter Crouch the soup fiend, the time Robbie Elliot tried to make Tom a cup of tea, and we play 'Real Book, Fake Book'. Welcome to my new podcast where each week I’ll be joined by leading coaches, athletes and educators from the world of sport and far beyond. On each episode I’ll go through my guests journey, their stories and compare with my own experiences coaching at the elite level, to pull out some greats tips and useful advice around all things performance and that often mentioned, but misunderstood word, culture. Currently I consult with some of the biggest sporting and corporate organisations in the world from Premier League Football teams to American Sporting institutions, but I’m probably best known for coaching the Fiji national rugby sevens team to world titles and the country’s first ever Olympic medal, a gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Of course I’ll draw on that amazing journey but also on the lessons I’ve learnt and the principles I’ve forged over the last 20 years working in professional sport - and that’s really what inspired me to star this podcast. I wanted to swap notes, glean tips and talk performance with some some amazing people. Writer and broadcaster Tom Fordyce is my first guest. We actually went to Cambridge University at the same time, but it wasn’t until my role coaching the England Rugby sevens team that our paths properly crossed. Tom was working as BBC Chief Sports writer, a job that he held for over 20 years and we’ve been friends ever since. Currently he stars in the extremely popular Peter Crouch Podcast and has now set up his own podcast network (https://crowdnetwork.co.uk) which includes shows like Death of a Sports Star, Death of a Rock Star and new show, We Didn’t Start The Fire - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/we-didnt-start-the-fire/id1549243765. Tom actually ghost-wrote my book, Sevens Heaven and he’s also written many other great sports biographies. As I’ve said, in future weeks I’ll be joined by guests to find the signals that have propelled their own careers, but for this episode, Tom was good enough to help me explore some of the subjects that will come up over the course of this programme, from star players, enjoyment, managing egos, my concept of guardrails, experience, culture, use of technology and much, much more. I hope you enjoy… More About Tom Fordyce: Twitter - @tomfordyce Peter Crouch Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/that-peter-crouch-podcast/id1436030381 Show Notes & Transcript - https://benryan.co.uk/podcast/episode-1-tom-fordyce/ Listen & Subscribe to The Ben Ryan Podcast: Ben’s Website - https://benryan.co.uk/podcast/ Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-ben-ryan-podcast/id1553400216 Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/3iUL1eLA7HFKt5gxO7Uf4j?si=oN9YN6uFRSSGbO6kR01ONQ Amazon Music - https://amzn.to/3shGDnO Follow me on Instagram - https://bit.ly/2Z5QSit Follow me on Twitter - https://bit.ly/3ph5W7o Follow me on LinkedIn - https://bit.ly/3ah8Ftv Read about me - https://amzn.to/2NLu0Ck
This brand new pop culture history podcast is nothing like anything you've heard before, and it's everything you need to understand the modern world. This is the start of an epic journey where Tom Fordyce and Katie Puckrik take each of the 120 people, places and things mentioned in 'We Didn't Start The Fire', the smash hit by Billy Joel, and record an episode on every single one - and in the process they're expanding their brains without even feeling like they're learning. True to Billy Joel's words we're kicking off with Harry Truman, an ordinary man from humble stock who rose to become the 33rd President of the United States, founder of NATO, yes-sayer to the devastating nuclear bomb on Hiroshima, vanguard of the heroic Berlin airlift, and avid piano player. Katie and Tom are lucky to have with them the columnist and famed political pundit Eleanor Clift (whom you may have seen appear as herself in films like 'Independence Day' and 'Dave'), to help them understand the man who oversaw the rebuilding of the post-war world. Has any US president ever had to make so many monumental decisions? The clips used in this episode are in the public domain and have been kindly provided by the Screen Gems Collection at the Harry S Truman Library. Learn more about your ad choices.
