- BONUS EP: The Nithya Raman Interview: ‘Let’s Celebrate Making Things in L.A. Again’
Los Angeles mayoral candidate and Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman is acutely aware of what’s at stake as local Hollywood production craters — 42,000 jobs lost over two years between 2022 and 2024, shoot days down 50 percent below the five-year average. Many of her constituents in District 4, which stretches from the San Fernando Valley to the Santa Monica Mountains, work in the industry — and her husband, Vali Chandrasekaran, is a longtime writer and producer, with credits on television comedies like Modern Family , 30 Rock and Netflix’s The Four Seasons . Last week, Raman came by the Ankler offices for a conversation with Richard Rushfield about her plan to save the industry, as well as her thoughts about how we got here. - Ep 163: "Building a Modern City with Empathy Through Adversity" with Nithya Raman
Can local government work for everyone? Can individual citizens like you, make a difference in your neighborhoods and Cities? Can elected officials think differently about a City’s challenges and opportunities, to build better? Rob sits down with CouncilPerson Nithya Raman — the first South Asian woman elected to L.A.'s City Council in the City’s 245 year history — for a candid, but hopeful and human conversation about the city’s biggest challenges: homelessness, housing, and a climate in crisis. - Tackling LA's Homelessness Crisis with Nithya Raman
Nithya Raman is an urban planner, activist, and Los Angeles Council Member for the 4th District. Nithya was born in India and moved to the US as a child, where she later went on to study at Harvard University and get her master’s degree in urban planning at MIT. She ran for office for the first time at 38-years-old with no prior political experience, passionate about solving Los Angeles’ homeless crisis.
