- EP 08 : Sky Diamonds with Lily Cole, Alpaca farming challenges in Ibiza, plus Juntos Live talks meet Medicine Festival founder and Fundacio Actividades Biosfericas
We head to Sustainable fashion Boutique Agora in todays New Moon episode to hear about Sky Diamonds and a new collection launched by activist, author, actor and podcaster, Lily Cole. She explains how the lab grown gems are created through carbon dioxide collected from the atmosphere and gives us her thoughts on how the fashion industry needs tighter regulation. Next we hear from Belgian journalist Bart from Antwerp, who gives us a humbling insight into farming Alpacas close to Es figural about how he made it through what was a rather rough winter but ended on a high after his Black Gold was commissioned by the mayor of Santa Eulalia to nourish the plants of the province. We close with a LIVE talk recorded at Juntos farm this weekend with Medicine festival co founder and host Josh Dugdale on how the event grew from 200 in 2020 to 7,000 people this year and how they support and celebrate indigenous rights all over the world. Last but not least, Pablo, founder of the Fundacio Actividades Biosfericas explains how they restore critical watersheds at the top of the Andean mountain range through a process they have called - "Milking the clouds".
- 5 minutes with Lily Cole on the link between fashion and activism
Join us in short clip with model Lily Cole, the relentless advocate for sociopolitical and environmental causes. During Harvest in Kaplankaya, Lily imparted invaluable insights on nurturing our planet. In a snippet from Season 5's Harvest episode, Tune in to uncover her unique perspective on the intersection of fashion and activism, and hear how she bridges that gap as an environmentalist from the fashion industry. I asked her if she felt disconnected today, as an environmentalist, from the fashion industry. Next week, we will release Dr. Thupten Jinpa's interview in Kaplankaya. He is a prominent figure in our exploration of compassion, a leading scholar, author, and practitioner. With a deep-rooted connection to the Dalai Lama as his principal English translator, Jinpa's insights into compassion transcend mere understanding, delving into the practical application of this transformative concept. His profound wisdom and expertise offer a guiding light in our journey to unlock the power of compassion in our lives. Don't miss the episode! - The Last Bohemians Live at Tate Lates: Hilma af Klint with Lily Cole and Amrita Dhallu
Mystic. Painter. Feminist. Fantasist. Forgotten pioneer. Who exactly was Hilma af Klint? In this very special live episode of The Last Bohemians, as part of Tate Lates, host Kate Hutchinson talks to actor, model and activist Lily Cole and Amrita Dhallu, Assistant Curator of International Art at Tate Modern, to discuss the life (1862-1944) and work of the once forgotten Swedish pioneer of abstract art. Cole stars as one of De Fem ('The Five'), af Klint's Stockholm-based spiritual group who communed with spirits during séances in the late-1800s, in Lasse Hallström's brand new biopic of the artist. Dhallu is part of the team who put together Tate Modern's latest exhibition, boldly pairing Klint's extraordinary paintings with those of Piet Mondrian and asking us to consider the role that the natural world played in their work. Together, they consider how great women artists throughout history have been criminally overlooked, the legacy of af Klint's work today and why the af Klint renaissance is in full-swing. Hilma is streaming now on Viaplay; Hilma af Klint & Piet Mondrian: Forms of Life runs at Tate Modern, London, until 3 September This episode was produced by Sarah Myles and hosted by Kate Hutchinson. The Last Bohemians theme music is by Emmy The Great.
- Caring & Winning with Lily Cole
My guest today on the Green Dream is Lily Cole, British model-turned-environmentalist and author of Who Cares Wins: How to Protect the Planet You Love , an eye-opening book about climate change. Lily began modeling twenty years ago and has been named “Model of the Year” and one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. When Lily was 17, she modeled for a jewelry company that was later accused of exploiting local Bushmen with its diamond mining practices. Lily traveled to Botswana to understand the situation, and she was so moved by what she saw, she helped the Bushmen export their own jewelry and keep the profits. This was her first campaign to help the planet and humanity, and it put her on the path toward activism. Since then, she has woven together her modeling and climate awareness work. Following the publication of her book, Lily launched a podcast of her own, also called Who Cares Wins . On it, she discusses climate solutions with guests such as Chelsea Clinton, David Attenborough, and Elon Musk. I heard Lily speak at the TED Countdown Summit in Edinburgh last year, during a dinner she hosted at the botanical gardens for conference attendees, and was truly moved by her passion for climate reforms. I think you will be too. Environmental activist and model Lily Cole is On Jimmy’s Farm to discuss how we can protect the planet we love, and the healing power of nature. Lily started her career as an international model when she was a teenager, but she found herself on a slightly different journey into climate change activism after finding the confidence to refuse to wear fur on the catwalk. Hear about some of the eco-activists and pioneers she’s spoken to along the way, and why she thinks despite all the gloomy statistics, there is reason to be optimistic. - REV On Air With Lily Cole: Who Cares Wins - Reasons For Optimism Within The Climate Crisis
Today on the REV podcast we speak to Lily Cole - model, actress, entrepreneur and now author of an incredible book, Who Cares Wins - reasons for optimism in our changing world. Lily started her career in modelling early, and quickly took advantage of the education she was getting into consumerism and unsustainable production to explore her own interest in ethical manufacturing and environmentalism. She became a spokesperson for animal cruelty, human injustices and detrimental fashion practices from the inside of the industry, and has only allowed her voice to grow with each passing year. She has set up a sustainable sunglasses brand called Wires which we are thrilled to have here on REV, and she has dedicated the past couple of years to speaking to as many people as possible about our solutions to the climate crisis. At a moment when so many of us are despairing about the future, Lily is trying to offer optimism and actionable tasks for us all. Within her book Who Cares Wins, we learn so much about the brilliant people forging a more sustainable future and today we are going to discuss the movement towards a green future and how we can all engage with it. Also, how to not let fear and anxiety overtake our feelings towards the climate crisis and allow for apathy over action. Lily is a trailblazer and we can’t wait to share her story with you all as she’s such an inspiration. We hope this conversation will lead you to action and conversation as we need more than ever to be tackling the climate crisis together.
