What a combination and creative minds! Step inside Marie Claire’s exclusive space for another candid conversation where fun and frankness takes centre stage. Australian icons Asher Keddie and Liane Moriarty dissect art, ambition, and the reality of writing and acting “complex, layered characters.”, Liane reveals: “I am really interested in when people are different than what they appear—I’m fascinated by behaving in one way, but… behind the scenes, struggling with that.” Giving insight into her incredible writing. From the set of Nine Perfect Strangers to the intimate details behind Offspring and Big Little Lies , these two trailblazers open up about creative collaboration, evolving ambition, and embracing the label “women’s fiction.” Liane ponders, “Should I, in fact, embrace women’s fiction because most of my readers are women, and I love doing these events, and it’s all women?” and what that means for women’s literature Hear how “stories are so ripe to be explored on the screen,” why both women “dig and dig and dig until I can’t anymore,” and how the tension between comedy and drama defines their enduring success. - Liane Moriarty on Here One Moment: Destiny, Fear and Fiction
Oh my goodness, I cannot begin to tell you just how special this episode was for me! Back in 2019, I actually missed an opportunity to ask Liane Moriarty a question because I was too nervous to put my hand up. Fast forward to today, and I can't quite believe I got to do a whole interview with Liane and I absolutely loved every single moment. It was a total dream come true! Liane joins me in this episode to discuss her brilliant new novel, Here One Moment. We chat all about the incredible (and, let's be honest, very unsettling!) premise of a woman giving out death predictions on a delayed flight, and where that idea came from. We then delve into our own opinions on fate, destiny, and even clairvoyants – it was all quite deep for a Monday morning! Of course, as always, we also discover the five books that have shaped Liane’s life, which are: Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park Feeling Sorry For Celia by Jaclyn Moriarty (currently unavailable on bookshop.org ) Pennington’s Seventeenth Summer by K.M. Peyton The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler Before we move on, I'd like to officially reassure all my lovely listeners that I have finally picked up The Time Traveller’s Wife, and I am really enjoying it! It only took the gentle encouragement of several bestselling authors to get me to actually pick it up, but hey, I got there in the end! Also mentioned in this episode: The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin The Measure by Nikki Erlick The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler Forever by Judy Blume Three Days in June by Anne Tyler Well, that is officially it for Season 3! I honestly don't know where the last eight weeks have gone, but I really, really hope that you have enjoyed this season as much as I have. I owe a huge thank you to all my wonderful guests who have made this such a joy: Gillian McAllister Fran Littlewood Lucy Steeds Claire Douglas Frances Quinn Clare Leslie Hall Virginia Evans And of course, the incredible Liane Moriarty! I'm currently buzzing with ideas and working away on Season 4, and I absolutely cannot wait to share more details with you. If you're following me on Instagram , you’ll be amongst the first to know what I’ve got planned. In the meantime, if you've enjoyed this episode (or any others!), please do take a moment to rate, review, and subscribe wherever you listen to your podcasts. And most importantly, please tell all your book-loving friends about Best Book Forward! Spreading the word truly makes a huge difference and helps more bookworms find us. Thanks so much for listening, and I'll see you soon for more bookish chat!

- Book Club Meets: Fate, mortality, and psychics, with Liane Moriarty
Is your fate already pre-determined? Or do you feel you have true free will to dictate your own destiny? ...and if you could, would you want to find out when you’re going to die? These are the questions Liane Moriarty’s Here One Moment grapples with. Here One Moment was our Happy Place Book Club read for November, and Liane joins Fearne to chat about why she wanted to explore chaos, chance, mortality, and psychic abilities in this novel. Plus, how good are you at expressing yourself creatively without worrying how your efforts will be received? They talk through how to find intrinsic motivation for creative pursuits rather than relying on external praise... - “Reading Life Through Liane’s Lens” with Liane Moriarty
There is nothing quite like reading a book you can’t put down. So, when given the opportunity to sit down with Liane, it’s a chance at insight into what makes her who she is. It’s clear that Liane’s lens on life is flourished with detail capturing the brightness of first glance, but also not looking away when it comes to the darkness of our shadows. So, we ask the question has Liane always seen life through that lens? Or is it a lens that enhanced as her writing has grown strength? And how do you continue to focus on ideas that grow to stories, and not let the worlds fascination distract or detract from writing them?
