Drummer and Musical Director Matt Brooks already has a CV full of household names such as Nicole Scherzinger, Meghan Trainor, Raleigh Ritchie, Conor Maynard, Jason Derulo and many more.... However for almost 9 years now Matt has been providing the groove for the sensational artist Raye, this year has been the biggest so far for Raye and her huge band after the smash hit Where is my husband? took thw world by storm! Matt kindly managed to find some time to talk to me amidst a punishing schedule of transatlantic flights almost every week to appear on the biggest talk shows in the US whilst trying to record a new album. With over 2.5 billion views on Youtube and nearly 2 billion Spotify streams, Conor Maynard is a YouTube pioneer and one of the first music talents to transition from online to IRL pop-stardom His debut album Contrast hit number one in the UK charts and what has followed has been the stuff of dreams: world tours, multiple awards and collaborations with some of the industry’s biggest names including Pharrell, BTS, Justin Bieber and Ne-Yo. Just as the pandemic hit in March 2020, Conor reflected on that stratospheric debut 10 years on and made the huge decision to step out on his own as an independent artist. We had a chance to chat with Conor Maynard about growing up with musical influences, the impact of winning MTV’s Brand New Award, the level of attention put into writing and recording sing-offs, covering “Dance with Somebody” in an unexpected way, pranking Tom Holland, and whether he will write another book. Conor Maynard was one of the earliest artists to embrace the power of YouTube. While he was in his teens he started uploading covers to the platform, and his version of Ne-Yo's "Beautiful Monster" quickly racked up more than 1 million views. Before long managers, record labels and Ne-Yo himself came calling, all looking to work with Conor. By the time he was 19 he released his 2012 debut album Contrast , which hit Number One in the UK and yielded five Top 10 singles. The road since hasn't been quite as trouble free, but 10 years on from Contrast Conor has well and truly taken back control of his career, releasing his new music independently and using his social media savvy to engage directly with his audience.
