  • Christopher Cantwell Interview - Kid Maroon

Christopher Cantwell returns to the podcast to discuss his upcoming graphic novel: KID MAROON . Chris has teamed up with Victor Santos and Vault Comics to tell this story of a hard-boiled kid detective on the streets of Crimeville. Chris chats with Jimmy about the origins of this series, the incredible work of Victor Santos, and the hilarious "life" of Pep Shepard. Chris discusses the joy of collaboration, making sure the story works for the medium you're working in, and how KID MAROON could only work as a comic. Plus, Chris talks about the upcoming RED SHIRTS and the trade for OUT OF ALCATRAZ . There's so much great stuff coming out from Chris! KID MAROON comes out September 24th. Be sure to check out all the links below after listening to the episode. 🔗 Follow Christopher on Bluesky KID MAROON From the publisher Back in print for the first time in over 75 years... the world's only hard-boiled boy detective - KID MAROON. From the shared genius of Christopher Cantwell (Iron Man, Doctor Doom) and Victor Santos (Polar, Violent Love) comes an all-new Kid Maroon graphic novel, featuring the rich history of Pep Shepard's beloved boy detective, including strips long considered lost to time. Two years ago, Walden Maroon outgrew his small town, his loving parents, and the low stakes mysteries involving missing butterflies and stolen cookies. Since then, he's dwelled within the cesspit of Crimeville, where murders, vice, and corruption are the city's bread and butter. But at 12 years old, Kid is weary. When a string of horrific killings and arsons spring up in the streets, can he crack the case with his quick wits and slingshot? Or does Kid Maroon secretly yearn for what he's never gotten to be... a kid? 🔗 Vault's press release about KID MAROON Star Trek RED SHIRTS From the publisher The start of an all-new heartrending Star Trek five-issue miniseries by writer Christopher Cantwell (Star Trek: Defiant) and artist Megan Levens (Star Trek), featuring Starfleet's most intrepid and doomed crewmembers: red shirts. Now, finally, they get their own story.Led by an experienced officer embedded on the snow-ridden planet Arkonia 89, the crew of the U.S.S. Warren has a small window in which to pin down spies seeking to steal classified secrets and keep Starfleet data out of their nefarious hands. They face threats not only from their faceless enemies but from the brutalizing elements and wildlife of a planet far from home. The red shirts' lives and Starfleet's sanctity are on the line...and no one is safe. 🔗 Check out OUT OF ALCATRAZ (the trade is out in October) Follow Comic Book Yeti 🔗 Comic Book Yeti LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/ComicBookYeti For partnership and ad inquiries, please contact: thecomicsyeti@gmailcom Follow your hosts 🔗 Jimmy Gaspero: https://bsky.app/profile/jimmygaspero.bsky.social 🔗 Byron O’Neal: https://bsky.app/profile/byrononeal.com PATREON We have a new Patreon, CryptidCreatorCornerpod . • Christopher Cantwell Interview: Challengers of the Unknown

DC December continues! Christopher Cantwell is an Eisner Award nominee and one of the writers and creators of the TV show Halt and Catch Fire . Christopher joins Jimmy on the Cryptid Creator Corner to talk about Plastic Man No More (the trade is out April 8, 2025) as well as the brand new Challengers of the Unknown (issue #1 is out December 18, 2024). Christopher talks about this new series, working with artist Sean Izaakse, the history of the Challengers and what he loves about these characters. Plus, Jimmy and Christopher chat about Jimmy's favorite series that Christopher wrote: The Blue Flame (with Adam Gorham, Kurt Michael Russell, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou). This was such a fun conversation that you don't want to miss. Challengers of the Unknown From the publisher Throughout DC’s history, the Challengers of the Unknown have been on the front lines when it comes to investigating the strange and unusual. This December, these investigators of the weird make their DC All In debut with the new Challengers of the Unknown , a five-issue limited series written by Christopher Cantwell ( Plastic Man No More! ) with art by Sean Izaakse ( Green Arrow ). Spinning out of Absolute Power and the DC All In Special , the terror of the Darkseid shock wave has cascaded across the DC Universe…tearing open the very fabric of time and space itself! Only one band of super-scientists have the right stuff to challenge the fate of a universe: the Challengers of the Unknown. Ace Morgan, June Robbins, Prof Haley, Red Ryan, and Rocky Davis, adventurers “living on borrowed time,” run day-to-day operations for the Justice League’s Watchtower base in orbit above Earth, collaborating with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the League to seal the rifts that threaten the galaxy. But a mysterious foe from the Challengers’ past lurks in the shadows, and its connection to the Darkseid wave will put not only the Challengers, but all of the DC Universe on borrowed time. Plastic Man No More From the publisher Eel O’Brian might be a superhero now—but before he was anything else, he was a crook. Until the accident that turned him into the pliable Plastic Man, Eel was bad to the bone…and just because he no longer has bones doesn’t mean that’s not still true. When an incident on a Justice League mission leads to catastrophic cellular damage, Plastic Man discovers he just might be out of time to make amends for the past he’s tried hard to outrun—or to save the soul of his son, who (unfortunately for him) might have inherited more from dear old Dad than just his superpowers. • Watch With Jen - S2: E49 - Halt and Catch Fire with Christopher Cantwell (Co-Creator/Showrunner)
    Watch With Jen™

This week on Watch With Jen, we have a very special guest and the man behind one of my favorite shows in recent memory. The TV writer, director, producer, showrunner, and co-creator of Halt and Catch Fire , which, along with The Americans , Succession , and Better Call Saul , is easily one of the best series of the 2010s, Christopher Cantwell is here to tell us all about the cult favorite AMC show that you can watch in its entirety right now on Netflix. (And you should totally do that and then come right back to listen to the podcast!) In addition to his TV work, which also includes co-executive producing Lodge 49 and Paper Girls , Chris has been very active as of late in the world of comic books, where he is currently writing Marvel's monthly Iron Man series, as well as his own original titles in collaboration with some truly fantastic artists and imprints such as Vault Comics' The Blue Flame , Regarding the Matter of Oswald's Body from Boom Studios, She Could Fly , Volume 3 from Berger Books and Dark Horse. You can find the latest issues of these titles on comic book store shelves throughout the month. Running the length of a feature film, in this epic episode (which serves up some details about the critical favorite that have never before been revealed), Cantwell shares the funny and fascinating behind-the-scenes saga of Halt and Catch Fire from its initial idea to its eventual series run on AMC. Here you'll hear about the casting process including the way that the actors informed their characters, as well as the decision to constantly shift the show's setting and power dynamics each season, along with production stories, Halt 's pitch-perfect use of music, and so much more. As a fan of the series from the very beginning and someone who greatly enjoyed chatting with Chris's brilliant wife Elizabeth about horror movies earlier in the year as well, this conversation was a true honor and a pleasure and I'm thrilled to share the story of Halt and Catch Fire with all of you all. In this week's episode of Off Panel, writer Christopher Cantwell joins to chat about writing comics like Doctor Doom, Iron Man, and the upcoming The Blue Flame at Vault. • Blue Flame Spotlight with Christopher Cantwell

Jace welcomes writer Christopher Cantwell back to the show to talk about his upcoming Vault series The Blue Flame. This new series will explore some big ideas with dual storylines set in the down to earth city of Milwaukee and the far reaches of space. Starting from the premise that any hero and certainly a 'super'hero is inherently setting themselves up for failure through the simple fact that they can't be everything and everywhere for everyone. That idea is can then be distilled down and applied to all of us as we live our lives and try to make positive contributions to the world. The guys also chat a bit about Christopher's current Iron Man run, a tease for the return of She Could Fly and more. Join us for this fun and engaging conversation.
