In Part 2, we pick back up on what happens after John Rodney McRae is released from prison. In this episode, we leave off after discussing Kip Hess's disappearance and the early conviction of McRae in Joey Housey's murder. After his sentence is commuted, McRae relocates to Florida and other boys begin disappearing. While these cases may appear solved on the surface, the boys have never been located and its believed that there are many more victims out there that have not been identified or tied to McRae. Info? Michigan Author Christie Lypka is writing a book with the goal of bringing awareness to the other cases and trying to bring the Florida boys home. When a young teen vanishes on his way to school, a single note left behind pushes police toward the idea that he was a runaway. But the people who knew him best never believed that. As the days stretched on, that theory began to crumble and a prime suspect emerged. On this podcast, I never center the perpetrator, and that remains true here. But to show just how unsafe the so-called simpler times could be, today I am walking you through a pattern of violence and how one man’s repeated behavior, combined with a weak response from the systems meant to protect children, allowed him to continue harming young boys and likely take multiple lives. This week I’m doing something a bit different. Because the crime spree here stretches over decades and involves so many people, this episode will focus first on the disappearance of a boy named Kipling, how a suspect emerged, and then backtrack to the earliest known crime that suspect committed. The following day, Part 2 will be released which will focus on the crimes that occurred after the suspect’s release from prison. The cases featured in part 2 will largely be that of teen Keith Flemming and young adult Charles Collingwood, but Kipling’s story will continue to be woven in as well. Police finally close in on the suspect, but another boy will go missing first. While these two episodes do have a highly probably suspect and may appear as solved, Kipling, Keith, Charles and a couple of other boys I’ll get into are still missing and their families still don’t have answers. One of Britain's best former art forgers, ‘brushstroke alchemist’ David Henty, has been called a Master Craftsman of his art with over 30 years' experience, producing near original copies. Sophie Pierce didn’t think she’d live to thirty but has just become the first person with cystic fibrosis to complete a world record breaking rowing challenge across the Atlantic. The writer and illustrator Nick Butterworth, who was raised above a corner shop in Essex full of sweets, wasn't able to read until he was 8 - 70 years later and his Percy the Park Keeper book series has sold almost 9 million copies worldwide. All that, plus we have the Inheritance Tracks of Archers icon Charles Collingwood as he celebrates 50 years in Ambridge. Presenters: Nikki Bedi and Adrian Chiles Producer: Ben Mitchell

Here we are, back at Bill Pogue’s. It’s after 11PM. What do we know? Well, there are less people drinking here than last night, most would rather stay in and listen for updates. On the air over CBS right now is Joan Brooks. Me? I’m just trying to have that nightcap I started yesterday. There are still news bulletins coming out of Europe. It’s almost dawn there. The men will be continuing their missions with D-Day: Plus 1 So far, we know that at least four-thousand Allied soldiers have been killed in the initial attack, but the German forces on the Normandy peninsula have either been killed, captured or forced to withdraw to Caen. I’m sure as we speak troops and equipment are being ferried across the Channel. I know the hope is that by the end of June we’ll have nearly a million men in western Europe as we advance north from Italy simultaneously. With the Russians pushing Germany west it’s only a matter of time, but the Germans won’t go down without a fight. But, I know American resolve. We’ll be up for the task, no matter how long it takes. It’s why next month on Breaking Walls we’ll move just a few weeks into the future and focus on Independence Day, 1944. —————————— The reading material used in today’s episode was: • Radio Speakers--A Biographical Dictionary — By Jim Cox • On The Air — By John Dunning • Network Radio Ratings — By Jim Ramsburg As well as articles from • Broadcasting Magazine • CBSNews.com • GlobalNews.ca • LIFE Magazine • Military-History.org • The New York Times • The New York Daily News • Presidency.UCSB.edu • RadioArchives.com • Radio Daily —————————— On the interview front: • André Baruch, Mel Blanc, Ken Carpenter, Norman Corwin, Alice Frost, Barbara Luddy, Bret Morrison, Ken Roberts, Kate Smith, and Olan Soule spoke with Chuck Schaden.
