Carl Palmer is a drummer’s drummer. His dazzling speed and mastery of the drums has secured him multiple awards and well as a respected place in history as one of rock and roll’s greatest drummers. A consummate professional, a brilliant technician and a dynamic showman, he has thrilled audiences for nearly six decades playing with some of music’s most memorable bands from Atomic Rooster and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown to multi-platinum selling supergroups Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and ASIA. When I caught up with him he was fresh from touring his ELP Legacy shows celebrating 50 years of the band’s third album and ahead of ASIA’s 40th anniversary tour this summer. But what I couldn’t wait to talk about was the release of an amazing boxed set: ASIA In Asia, and hear the stories behind the recording of the 1983 performance in The Budakon, Tokyo. The tracks featured are: Here Comes The Feeling, Sole Survivor, and Heat of The Moment from ASIA In Asia – Live At The Budokan, Tokyo, 1983; and Tomorrow Night by Atomic Rooster. ASIA In Asia – Live At The Budokan, Tokyo, 1983, is available from 10th June, follow this link to pre-order and read more about it on the CATtales blog. • 18.2 Author and musician Bernd Franco Hoffmann and Detlef Schlich in an ArTEEtude talk about Hoffmann's time as music journalist and his embarrasing encounter with Carl Palmer (former Emerson, Lake and Palmer).

YouTube Podcast ArTEEtude ArTEEtude is West Cork´s first art, fashion and design podcast created and produced by Detlef Schlich. H e will dive and discover with us and the German author and musician Bernd Franco Hoffmann into the unknown and exciting deep ocean of the creative mind. In this podcast, Hoffmann and Schlich talk about Hoffmann´s inspiration for his very recent book Sex, Drugs and Symphonies which is supposed to be published in February 2021, from bands like Mötley Crüe, about his time as a music journalist and his embarrassing encounter with Carl Palmer (former Emerson, Lake and Palmer), his experience as co-founder of a pre techno electro-industrial band way back in the 80s and more. Schlich is Visual Artist, Film Maker and Ritual Designer, living and loving in West Cork and best known for his Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture and the video installation Transodin´s Tragedy. He is mainly working in the field of performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film. To research our human condition and create artwork from this reflection he is using often the methodology of the digital-shaman as alter ego. Hoffmann´s previously unpublished book “Sex, Drugs & Symphonies or The Incredible Story of Adrian, Riggbert & Theyler”, with its mixture of rock history, comedy and thriller, is a unique musical biography that has never existed before. On their odyssey through thirty years of real music and contemporary history, the three musicians meet historical personalities such as Romy Schneider, Elena Ceaușescu and Charlie Chaplin. In 1983 Hoffmann (synth, tapes) founded with Guido Kopp (synth, tapes) the electronic industrial band SEKTOR, based in Cologne. Back then the audience in the pre-techno era said: "You can't let the synthesizer run for 20 minutes and nobody sings". After several concepts and band member changes, concerts all over Germany followed, including at Documenta 8 in Kassel, before the band broke up in 1991.
