The Enneagram is wildly popular — but does it actually work? In this episode of The Mamapologist , we examine the history of the Enneagram, some of the psychology behind it, explore the Rainbow Ruse and Barnum Effect, and ask whether Christians should use it. Do we ground our identity in personality types. Is it a helpful tool for growth, or a persuasive illusion that feels more personal than it really is? Let’s look at the evidence.

Have you ever lain awake at night paralyzed by the thought, "What if it’s all fake? What if there is nothing after this?" For Alexa Cramer (contributor to Mama Bear Apologetics), the fear of death was a battle. From a childhood trigger involving an asthma attack to a terrifying vision of Heaven as a "boring trap," Alexa’s anxiety eventually led her into a season of deep doubt and deconstruction. In this episode of the True Comfort Podcast, Teasi and Alexa discuss what happens when bad theology leaves you with nothing to cling to. Alexa shares her vulnerable journey from believing God was "clueless" about the future (Open Theism) to discovering the rock-solid foundation of God’s sovereignty. If you struggle with anxiety, skepticism, or the fear of eternity, this conversation offers both the intellectual tools and the emotional comfort you need to stand firm. In this episode, we cover: The Root of Fear: How a childhood trauma and a misunderstanding of Heaven fueled a lifelong phobia. The Danger of "Open Theism": Why believing God doesn't know the future destroys our ability to trust Him. Deconstruction & Doubt: The moment Alexa hit rock bottom and asked, "God, are you even there?" Head meets Heart: How studying Apologetics (the evidence for faith) actually cured her emotional anxiety. Practical Tools: The specific mental framework Alexa uses to stop a panic attack in its tracks. Resources Mentioned: Mama Bear Apologetics The Bible Recap with Tara-Leigh Cobble Unbelievable? This episode of Mama Bear Apologetics explores the spiritual dangers behind the Enneagram and the teachings of Richard Rohr, particularly how they subtly oppose biblical Christianity. Amy is joined by fellow Mama Bear Alexa Cramer, who explains how Rohr redefines key Christian concepts like Jesus, sin, salvation, and the Bible itself. While Rohr’s language may sound Christian, his theology is rooted in mysticism, perennialism, and a pantheistic view of God—where all people and things are seen as inherently divine. The episode outlines how such teachings undermine the gospel and can mislead Christians, especially children, who may encounter the Enneagram in schools, churches, or online. Using Mama Bear’s “ROAR” method (Recognize, Offer objective discernment, Argue for a healthier approach, Reinforce), the conversation equips parents to help their children identify subtle theological errors, practice discernment, and defend a biblical worldview. The episode encourages parents to disciple their children by training them to think critically about spiritual claims, recognize redefined vocabulary, and affirm the unique truth of the gospel in a culture saturated with self-focused spirituality. Main Points Covered The ROAR method of discernment Role of Richard Rohr in popularizing the Enneagram among Christians Analysis of key quotes by Rohr Rohr’s theological framework Implications for evangelism, accountability, sanctification Cultural appeal of Enneagram and spiritual mysticism—especially for women and younger generations Practical admonition: alertness to Enneagram with children in schools, churches, etc. Resources Mentioned The Enneagram blog series on Mama Bear Apologetics Mama Bear Apologetics Episode on the Enneagram Dr. Groothuis, The Unmasking of the New Age (recommended for seeing how New Age ideas influence Rohr) Richard Rohr’s own books (e.g. The Universal Christ , The Divine Dance ) Our Sponsors AquaTru Go to AquaTru.com now for 20% off your purifier using promo code MBA. Today’s episode deals with all things Enneagram. The Enneagram is viewed by many Christians to be a harmless personality test that can help us with our relationships with God and others. But is there more to it? In today’s episode, Alexa Cramer joins the podcast to discuss the origins of the Enneagram, it’s influence in the church, and it’s subtle promotion of the false self/true self identity categories that Enneagram coaches (even the Christian ones) promote. Some Christian coaches try and harmonize the Enneagram with the gospel, but Alexa demonstrates how they are often influenced by the heretical teachings of Richard Rohr.
