- E82: Cannabis And You with Tommy Chong
As a youth, were you taught that cannabis is bad? Why is this negative stigma still around, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that cannabis is not harmful? Even though alcohol and tobacco result in hundreds of thousands of deaths around the world, their legality is never questioned in the same way. On this episode of “Good Dude’s Grow”, Gary talks to Tommy Chong. Tommy Chong is a Canadian-American actor, director, writer, musician, comedian, and cannabis rights activist. He is widely recognized for his partnership with fellow comedian and actor Richard ‘Cheech’ Marin. He was honored with the ‘High Times Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 2013. Gary and Tommy talked about Tommy’s early life story and how he got into advocating for cannabis rights around the world. Tune in for an episode that will enlighten your perspective about this healing plant. What You'll Learn: Tommy’s thoughts on the legality of cannabis and what is its current progress towards legalization What did Tommy discover during his research on cannabis and how this plant benefits the body How cannabis, alcohol, and cigarette vary from one another and how do they differentiate in their effects on the body And much more! Favorite Quote: "I wasn't a druggie by any means, I was the opposite - I was a bodybuilder. I was interested in health. In the 50's weight lifting was banned and the only drug that weight lifters would take is weed.” Tommy Chong Connect with Tommy: https://tommychong.com/ Instagram How to get involved: Gary Roberts, the host of the Good Dudes Grow podcast, is the founder and CEO of Pure Body Zen, a company based not only around creating and selling high-quality CBD products, but one that is on a mission to change the landscape on how mental health and addiction are treated. - Episode 70: Cheech & Chong, Doing Time, & Wisdom From The King Himself (feat. Tommy Chong)
When it comes to the current psychedelic renaissance happening today, I believe the age old notion applies for all of us who call ourselves psychedelic proponents that we are standing on the shoulders of the giants that have paved the way for us thus far. These individuals, like todays guest on the show, have not only risked their freedom, but have done so to be able to destigmatize these medicines & allow them to be slowly re-imagined by society at large as the potent & powerful medicines & teachers they rightly are. Todays guest on the show is a gentleman who I, as well as countless others in the world of Cannabis, have looked up to as an icon, proponent & comedic relief within the movement to bring Cannabis out of the dark ages & into the light of awe that it is currently experiencing in the world today. He is one half of the iconic duo “Cheech & Chong”, which for over 40 years has been supplying the world with deep belly laughter surrounding the subject of Cannabis & the little quirks all of us Cannabis lovers know so well with the plant, he also played a star role as “Leo” in “That 70’s show” & along with these incredible accomplishments, he has also gone through his fair share of hardships in being an activist for Cannabis, most recently being arrested & put in jail at the age of 65 in 2003 for selling pipes on the internet that could be used for smoking Cannabis. In this episode, we will be diving into his epic career that propelled Cannabis to a new height of mainstream attention, his journeys with other psychedelics, the hardships he has endured & much, much more. So, please help me in welcoming the one, the only, mister Tommy Chong to the show! Show Notes: (3:14) How Tommy got into psychedelics. (21:31) Check out FreedomBuilderz.com ! - Episode 12: Cannabis & The Higher Power - Interview with Tommy Chong
OMG - Tommy Chong came on the Bud & Blossom Podcast! For the final episode of Season 1, I’m so excited to share this special surprise with you. I recently had the honor of sitting down - over Zoom - with Tommy Chong. Yes, Tommy Chong. Of the Cheech and Chong movies. The one and only! Tommy has been delivering delightful stoner comedy since the 1970s. Since then, Tommy has continued his work as an actor, musician, and comedian. He has been a vocal cannabis advocate for over 50 years and has been called the “Pope of Dope”, the “Maharaja of Marijuana”, and “America’s Sweetheart of Cannabis”. These days, Tommy sells cannabis products under his brand, “Tommy Chong’s Cannabis”, helping his customers step toward cannabis wellness and better living. It was an honor to meet Tommy in person. Or, well, virtually. Not only is he perhaps one of the most famous stoners out there, but as I learned firsthand, he’s a man with some serious wisdom. - Episode 53: A Life of Getting Lit with Tommy Chong
It’s kinda weird hearing people say “weed is mainstream” now, when merely possessing the plant stuff can still earn you serious consequences in many parts of the world. But the growing popularity of cannabis is unmistakable. Marijuana is now a global, multi-billion dollar industry—well, to be fair, it always was, only now it’s all legitimate and overtaxed and commercialized instead of enriching drug cartels. Regardless, cannabis is more popular than ever, with a rapidly growing fandom among older generations. Even Martha Stewart is into CBD now. But while it’s great to see so many people starting to dig the awesome benefits cannabis sativa offers, it’s important to contextualize the culture and history that got us here. On Narcotica, we’ve done more than 50 episodes about all kinds of drugs: opioids, meth, cocaine, psilocybin magic mushrooms, ketamine, even sorta obscure stuff like antibiotics and salvia. But we’ve never done an episode entirely devoted to cannabis! How weird is that? One of the world’s most popular drugs, one I use every day and we just… haven’t gotten to it yet. So we thought we’d start things off with a bang and bring in one of weed’s biggest fans, none other than comedian, musician and world famous stoner Tommy Chong, of Cheech and Chong fame. We discuss everything from prison life to getting high in old age to how ‘Up In Smoke’ became a blockbuster hit to the emerging cannabis industry.
