In this episode, I had a conversation with Tom Mitchell about functional treatment and American healthcare. We talked about American healthcare when it comes to functional treatment. What is functional treatment, and proper care when it comes to patient care? We discussed US healthcare and issues that we, as patients and providers, face when it comes to the disconnect in patient care. We talked about programming the body to match the mind, and how resilience gets built before you need it. We discussed how people show up with pain, weight they can't shake, or fatigue that won't quit, and the...

- Mindset, Yoga & Performance: Building Your Inner Coach with Tom Mitchell
This episode is a deep dive into what it really means to be in the business of yourself. I’m joined by Tom Mitchell—performance coach and author of Embrace Your Inner Coach —and we explore the inner game of performance, self-leadership, and what it takes to trust yourself in a world that constantly tells you to look outside for answers. We talk about Tom’s journey from athlete to coach, how yoga and mindfulness became unexpected tools for growth, and why authenticity and vulnerability aren’t weaknesses—they’re access points to deeper connection and stronger leadership. This conversation isn’t about doing more. It’s about listening differently. Because your inner coach? It’s already there. 🎯 What We Cover What it actually means to be “in the business of yourself” The transition from athlete → mindset coach How yoga supports performance and self-awareness Zones of excellence vs. zones of genius Why authenticity matters in leadership and coaching The role of vulnerability in connection and growth Reframing rejection as part of the process The power of words—internally and externally 🔥 Key Takeaways Self-leadership requires awareness, not just action You don’t need more answers—you need more trust Yoga and mindfulness are performance tools, not just practices Vulnerability creates connection, not weakness Rejection is feedback, not failure Your words shape your reality—choose them wisely Your zone of genius is where fulfillment lives Lotus and Luna Link provides 20% off (sale items not included) Liforme Yoga Mats Use code RACHELF10 at checkout for a discount! - The History of Machine Learning with Tom Mitchell
Tom Mitchell, Founders University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University kicks off the podcast with this recording of his February 2026 seminar talk on “The History of Machine Learning.” He takes us from the writings of early philosophers about whether it is even possible to form correct general laws given only specific examples, to today’s machine learning algorithms that underlie a trillion dollar AI economy. Along the way we see the thoughts and recollections of many of the pioneers in the field, in the form of excerpts from upcoming podcast episodes featuring full interviews with each. Tom discusses the wonderful creativity and diversity of approaches explored during the 1980s, the integration of statistics and probability into the field in the 1990s and early 2000s, and the amazing progress over the past decade that has brought us today’s AI systems. He reflects in the end on what we should learn from this history. Recorded at Carnegie Mellon University.
