  • A Thousand Little Machines: Berardi and A/traverso with Kenny Novis, Jamila Squire and Seth Wheeler
    Zer0 Books and Repeater Media

The book: https://agitpress.net/books/p/a-thousand-little-machines Digitised copies of A/traverso: https://archive.leftove.rs/documents/grid/title/A/traverso In 1977 youth revolts spectacular in their intensity, creativity and violence would send shockwaves throughout Italian society. These rebellions, belonging to the autonomia movement, were characterised by a mass refusal of wage-labour and powered by novel experiments in communication, in particular the printed word. Hundreds of revolutionary newspapers known as ‘movement sheets’ would circulate Italy during those years, acting as little machines to produce political subjectivity. This book contains the recollections of the autonomist militant, philosopher and media theorist Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi on autonomia and the tumultuous events of ’77, told through the pages of A/traverso, the Bolognese movement sheet he produced with others between 1975 - 1981. In texts translated into English for the first time, presented alongside extensive archival material and stunning photographs, this book explores the subversion, exuberance and joy of the movement of ’77, while raising important questions about the role of creative collectivity and experimental communication for militants today. • Notes from Below: British Marxist Autonomism with Kenny Novis
    Zer0 Books and Repeater Media

Notes from Below are a British political group and journal who draw lessons from the Italian labour struggles from the 1960-70s to understand the limits of the modes of organising traditionally deployed by the militant left. Following the Italian operaistas, Notes begin their politics, not in the party or in a study replete with books on history and theory, but in the workplace. In September 2021, Notes began the Class Composition Project, whose purpose was to understand our current conjuncture better by starting with the experiences of workers in Britain who suffer its consequences and drive its developments. Based on this project, Notes have released a book, Class Composition in Britain. In this episode, Kenny and the Notes from Below collective discuss the key findings of this book, especially the potential for future resistance opened by its discoveries, its theoretical background, and the work being done elsewhere by Notes. • 'Radical Chains: Why Class Matters': Chris Nineham with Kenny Novis
    Zer0 Books and Repeater Media

At a time of almost unimaginable inequality, the mainstream still tries to ignore class. Radical Chains: Why Class Matters argues that denial of class is no coincidence but in fact central to the system’s survival. Exploring largely ignored histories of struggle and challenging the many myths about class today, Radical Chains puts forward the case that it is time to place class once again at the centre of emancipatory politics. • Is Ideology Unconscious? with Kenny Novis and Gil Morejon
    Zer0 Books and Repeater Media

From Gil's book: Three early modern philosophers - Spinoza, Leibniz and Hume - understood that minds necessarily involve ideas and patterns of thinking that are not conscious. Morejon shows that in this way they sharply distinguish themselves from other major early modern thinkers whose conceptions of the mind tended to identify thinking with consciousness, such as Descartes, Malebranche and Locke. This conception of the thinking mind as conscious remains popular even today. By contrast, Leibniz, Spinoza and Hume argue instead that thought is not, as such, a matter of consciousness. Morejon explores the significance of this insight for their conceptions of freedom and ethics. By systematically analyzing the major writings of these three thinkers and placing them in the context of the history of Western philosophy, he shows that together they provide us with a metaphysics of ideas that is uniquely helpful for thinking through important problems in contemporary political theory. In particular, it allows us to understand how it is possible for people to act against their own interests and in spite of their consciously knowing better. Readers will gain a sophisticated understanding of what Leibniz, Spinoza and Hume thought about the metaphysics of ideas, the nature of the human mind and the limits of individual freedom.
