In this episode, we talk to Joan Virginia Allen. She describes herself as an explorer, genuinely curious and someone who makes a difference. Joan lives in Ojai, California in the USA. At the age of 85, Joan wants to get people excited about changing the paradigm of aging. She opens up about her sabotaging voice and all the ways it tries to undermine her ability and to limit her. She describes how this inner critic manifests, how she identifies it and ultimately how she directs it. Through coming face to face with her negative voice, Joan describes a journey of dynamic aging while learning about herself and exploring unlimited possibilities… which she expands through curiosity and listening. Tune in to find out how “making a difference” for Joan actually begins with herself. You can find Joan at: Her Website https://dynamicaging4life.com/ Her Magazine https://dynamicaging4lifemagazine.com/ Her Book Dynamic Aging: Simple Exercises for Whole-Body Mobility Her Email joan@dynamicaging4life.com Joan acknowledges Sylvia Fox and Michael Fitzgerald, who edit the Dynamic Aging 4 Life magazine (listed above). Joan Allen, Urban Forester and Branch Chief, Urban Forest Management Division, talks with host Bob DeMarco about the invasive insect known as the spotted lanternfly, and the damage it causes to grapes, fruit trees, hops and many other agricultural plants -- but it is not in Fairfax County...yet.
This is an extra special episode as we are joined by our first ever guest, journalist (and self-proclaimed film nerd) Declan Cashin. We asked him to come armed with someone special to discuss and he delivered in spades with the marvellous Joan Allen. We wade on into the headlining entries in her film career such as her Oscar nominated performances in The Crucible, Nixon and The Contender alongside other unmissable favourites such as The Ice Storm and the undoubtable action classic Face/Off. Then it is time for a head-to-head Joan quiz-off and of course our obligatory wishes for her future film career. We hope you enjoy. Joan Allen, Chief, Forest Pest Branch, Urban Forest Management Division of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, talks with host Scott Coco about the coming Cicada Invasion arriving in Fairfax County in May and June. Millions of brood X cicada are expected to emerge from their underground homes and climb up trees looking for a mate. No harm will come to the trees and the cicadas fulfill their 'mission' of mating to make more cicadas. Once they find a mate, they die and become an all-you-can-eat buffet for birds and other wildlife.
This edition of EnviroPod (episode #4) features Joan Allen, Urban Forester, talking about an invasive, crop-killing pest known as the Spotted Lanternfly. This insect threatens the apple and grape industries (among others) and is quarantined in the City of Winchester.
