In this episode, Ciaran and Shaun are joined by Danny Baker, a member of the NeXYs community, who shares one of the most honest, detailed and ultimately hopeful journeys the podcast has featured. From a devastating NHS diagnosis delivered without compassion, through two failed ICSI rounds, a varicocele embolisation that made no difference to fragmentation, and a system that repeatedly ignored the man in the room — Danny takes you through every stage. And then he shares the result. Six months pregnant. What to Expect The moment Danny was told donor conception might be his only option — despite having nearly a million sperm A year spent fighting for NHS funding, only for the results to be lost and the process to start again Two failed rounds of ICSI and the aftercare that never really came Finding Jonathan Ramsay, identifying a large varicocele and high DNA fragmentation, and the embolisation that didn't fix things The COMET test, the XY device, and discovering the real root cause — being born ten weeks premature as a twin How DNA fragmentation dropped from 16% to 3% using DesiganMart, and what happened next The guilt of male factor infertility and the years of work it took Danny to let it go What it means to ride out the anxiety of a hard-won pregnancy, milestone by milestone Danny's advice: don't bury your head in the sand. Ask for help earlier than you think you need to. Please note: Danny refers to specific tests, devices and clinical findings throughout this episode. His experience is individual to him. Always consult your healthcare provider for advice specific to your situation. Episode Sponsors This season is all about reminding you that when it comes to fertility, you are not alone. At The Male Fertility Podcast, we know how powerful the right support can be, which is why we've partnered with Fertility Family to share Impryl. We all know nutrition matters for fertility, but let's be honest, maintaining a perfectly balanced diet for conception is incredibly hard. Choosing a supplement can be just as confusing, especially when many multivitamins contain strong antioxidants that can actually harm sperm quality. Impryl is different. It's made using activated micronutrients that support every cell in the body, from the largest, the egg, to the smallest, the sperm. These nutrients have been clinically shown to significantly improve live birth rates in men and women who had previously been struggling to conceive. What we really like is that behind the science are real stories from real people. To find out more, visit fertilityfamily.co.uk . Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue. Danny Baker is a Scout-Sniper in the United States Marine Corps turned police officer, turned deputy coroner. Following eight years active duty (including multiple combat deployments and four years of training new Scout-Snipers), Danny was hired to police the streets of Greenville, SC. After 14 years of this, he moved on to something more peaceful (?), working as a deputy coroner. In the first of a two-part segment, Danny will discuss his background, his preparation and training in the USMC Special Operations community, and what made him make the moves he did. Danny will touch on mental health in this episode, but it's really the build-up for the most moving interview I've not only conducted, but heard. Next week Danny will provide a brutal honesty into some of the things he went through when he hit rock bottom, and how he came out the other side alive. His path back to mental health. I have friends that have committed suicide, friends' kids that have, police co-workers that have, and many that have hit rock bottom and stared into the abyss. None have been this open and honest. -LEO Support the show Please follow on FB and Substack at links below! Substack contains true stories from my perspective. Danny Baker tells Gyles his extraordinary rags to riches story - from a council house in Bermondsey to partying with Elton John and Rod Stewart. He tells Gyles about his extraordinary father, Spud Baker. He also talks about getting cancer, and about getting cancelled, and how he survived both by being a "natural born Pollyanna". This story is full of wit, charm, funny stories, and Danny's characteristic ebullience. Enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Hosted on Acast. Danny’s done two hysterically funny, cartwheeling canters round the UK in the last few years and sets out again in February for 49 nights with ‘At Last …The Sausage Sandwich Tour’, another ‘panjandrum of unstoppable anecdote’. His memories of old rock and roll and theatre shows are high in the mix in this crackling exchange. Among the highlights … … Anita Harris at the ABC in Yarmouth. … appearing with the Millwall squad and Jimmy Tarbuck singing ‘New York New York’ in top hat and tails. … the joy of Keef Hartley’s Half-Breed. … arriving to see Frank Zappa to discover he’d been thrown offstage in the afternoon show “but Cochise were still appearing!” … his dad Spud’s amateur doctor who did a good sideline in racing tips. … why selling his 14,000 albums is like being “unchained from a lunatic”. … Black Sabbath playing ‘unplugged’ in a powercut at the Albert Hall. … and an honorary mention of the pith helmet full of saveloys. Led Zeppelin’s frontman Robert Plant is to thank for two of the nation’s most loved & respected broadcasters hitting the road to share extraordinary stories from a combined 100 years in the music business. Bob Harris & Danny Baker have been touring Britain with ‘Harris and Baker’s Backstage Pass’ recounting tales from the most seminal moments in music history featuring icons like David Bowie, Marc Bolan, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Van Morrison, The Beatles & many more greats. The fourth and last guest at our sun-roasted live event in Holland Park on July 17 was the ever-supercharged Danny Baker. Straw-hatted, drink-toting and delighted audience members were treated to a series of superb comic monologues which featured his idea for a Beatles movie, the South London promoter who locked himself in a portakabin to evade the wrath of his acts and a magnificent riff about how the music-hall legend Bud Flanagan conned his way onto an ocean liner (aged 14) and joined a travelling show in America. @prodnose Tour dates with Bob Harris … https://www.ents24.com/uk/tour-dates/danny-baker Help us to keep The Longest Continuous Conversation In Rock'n'Roll going: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Hosted on Acast.
